Kinsinger earns spot in Hall of Fame

Former Slippery Rock football All-American and three time AFL champion Matt Kinsinger will be inducted into the SRU Athletic Hall of Fame this fall.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. ­– Matt Kinsinger, a former collegiate All-American and member of three Arena Football League championship teams, was recently selected as a member of the Slippery Rock University Athletic Hall of Fame's Class of 2014.
 
Kinsinger was a four-year letterman as a defensive lineman for Rock football teams coached by George Mihalik and earned All-America honors in 1997 and 1998, his final two seasons at SRU. En route to the All-America honors, Kinsinger received first-team All-Northeast Region and All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division honors.
 
The Green and White's starting nose tackle, Kinsinger played a major role in The Rock winning PSAC-West championships with perfect 6-0 records in both 1997 and 1998.
 
Kinsinger set SRU's single-season quarterback sacks record with 12 in his junior season (1997), which broke his own mark of 11 set one year earlier, and also set the season tackles for loss mark with 26 in 1997. Kinsinger remains The Rock's career leader in QB sacks (60) and tackles for loss (32).
 
Following his senior season, Kinsinger earned an invitation to play in the Snow Bowl, NCAA Division II all-star game, in which he recorded three quarterback sacks as part of a five-tackle game, forced a fumble and recorded a safety.
 
Upon completion of his collegiate career, Kinsinger played nine seasons in the AFL. Kinsinger was the starting fullback on San Jose SaberCats' championship teams in 2002, 2004 and 2007.
 
Kinsinger is a 1995 graduate of Meyersdale High School, where he earned three all-county honors in football, basketball and baseball. Kinsinger was also named as the Ken Lantzy Finest 40 All-Star Game Defensive MVP following his senior season.
 
A 1999 SRU graduate, Kinsinger is currently employed as an investment advisor in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Kinsinger also serves as a football and baseball coach at Fountain Lake High School in Hot Springs, serves on the board of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and teaches youth classes at his church.
 
Kinsinger will be one of seven individuals inducted into the SRU Athletic Hall of Fame during ceremonies Sept. 6 at SRU's Robert M. Smith Student Center. The 31st annual induction event begins with a social hour at 1:30 p.m. followed by dinner and the induction ceremony at 2:30 p.m. The Class of 2014 will also be honored during halftime of The Rock's home football game at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium against Kutztown University. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
 
Tickets for the 2014 SRU Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony are $40 each if ordered by August 27 and $50 each if ordered after August 27. Joining Kinsinger as members of the SRU Athletic Hall of Fame's Class of 2014 will be Jessica Bungo Livermore (women's tennis, SRU Class of 2004), Lori Robinson Nuzzo (women's basketball and track and field, SRU Class of 1997, 1999-M), Pat O'Hare (men's soccer, SRU Class of 1965), Nate Thimons (baseball, SRU Class of 2000, Chuck Tursky (wrestling, SRU Class of 1980) and Tom Wise (track and field, SRU Class of 1998).
