Records fall in Rock win over Ohio Eastern

Slippery Rock set new school records for points and made 3-pointers and Desma Nicholson broke the school record for made 3-pointers in a game as The Rock rolled to a 134-69 win over Ohio Eastern Friday night.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team broke school records for total points and made 3-pointers in a single game in running away with a 134-69 victory over Ohio University Eastern Friday night at Morrow Field House.
 
The Panthers of the Ohio Regional Campus Conference were far overmatched from the opening tip. Slippery Rock led 77-27 at halftime and cruised to the win with subs playing the entire second half.
 
The Rock improves to 6-2 overall with the win. Ohio Eastern drops to 3-2 overall. The same two teams will meet on the same floor on New Year's Eve at 1 p.m.
 
Friday's game was the last Slippery Rock will play for the next 10 days as the team breaks for finals week. The Rock returns to action Dec. 16 with a 7:30 p.m. home game against Millersville University.
 
The 134 points scored topped the previous school record of 127 points that was set in the early part of the 2008-09 season in a win against Ohio State Mansfield, which is in the same conference as Ohio Eastern.
 
The Rock made 22 3-pointers Friday night, topping the previous record of 17 that was set against Salem International in a win during the 2009-10 season.
 
The individual school record for made 3-pointers in a game also fell Friday night as Desma Nicholson knocked down 9-of-16 attempts from long range. The previous record of eight was held by three different players (Dennis Greene (1990-91), Donald Yarnell (1999-00) and Michael Evans (2008-09)).
 
Nicholson finished with a team-high 27 points. Allen Jiles added a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Jordan Grady also recorded a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 22 rebounds. T.J. Jones recorded 18 points and five assists and Chris Hays scored 14 points. Frank Holloway was the only starter to reach double figures, scoring 10 points as the starting unit played just seven minutes.
 
Slippery Rock recorded 66 rebounds in the game and finished with a +38 advantage on the glass. The Rock shot 55.6 percent from the field (55-of-99), 47.8 percent from beyond the 3-point arc (22-of-46) and 66.7 percent at the free throw line (2-of-3).
 
Ohio Eastern shot 40.3 percent from the field (31-of-77), 22.7 percent from long range (5-of-22) and 33.3 percent at the free throw line (2-of-6).
 
Jordan Sorge led the way with a game-high 29 points for the Panthers. Ellis Brown added 25 points.
 
Slippery Rock returns to Division II action and to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action Dec. 16 against Millersville.
