Traditional Box Score (HTML)SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team used a smothering defensive effort and massive advantage in the paint to run away with a 77-49 victory over Millersville Tuesday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action at Morrow Field House.

The Rock (7-2 overall, 3-1 PSAC) recorded a +33 rebounding margin against Millersville (4-6 overall, 1-4 PSAC) with a 68-35 advantage on the glass and outscored the Marauders 46-12 in the paint.

On top of the dominance in the paint, Slippery Rock held Millersville to a woeful 16.9 percent shooting efficiency (11-of-65) for the game, which is the lowest recorded shooting percentage for a Rock opponent on record.

One of the key factors on the defensive end for The Rock was the presence of
Erik Raleigh, who nearly tied the SRU record for blocks in a game with eight rejections. He finished just one block shy of tying Devin Taylor's single-game record of nine blocks, which the former all-region forward set at Kutztown University on Jan. 4, 2011.

The Maruaders scored nearly half of their points at the free throw line, going 23-of-37 from the charity stripe. On the other side, Slippery Rock took just 16 free throws and was 10-of-16 from the line.

The Rock finished the game shooting 42.5 percent from the field, connecting on 31-of-73 shot attempts for a total of 20 more made field goals than the visitors. Slippery Rock was 26.3 percent from beyond the 3-point arc (5-of-19).

The 68 rebounds was the second straight game SRU recorded more than 65 rebounds and the third straight game with at least 50 rebounds. The Rock increased its PSAC-best rebounding margin to an impressive +17.1 per game.

A total of 10 different players scored points for Slippery Rock Tuesday and eight different players grabbed at least five rebounds.

Chaquille Pratt recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.
Antonio Butler recorded a game-high 14 points to lead the scoring.
Frank Holloway and
Kelvin Goodwin each scored 13 points and Raleigh added seven points and a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with his school record eight blocks. Goodwin added a career-high seven assists and five rebounds to round out a balanced night.

Cornelius Brown added seven points and seven rebounds and
Desma Nicholson also chipped in seven points.

Millersville was led by 12 points from Tyree Smith and 10 points from Kelvin Parker, with five points for each of them coming from the free throw line. No Marauder player made more than three field goals in the game.

The game was never in doubt as Slippery Rock scored the first nine points and jumped out to a 17-3 lead just five minutes into play. Millersville made just four field goals in the first half and trailed 41-21 at the break.

The advantage grew to as much as 28 points in the second half and never fell below 20 points in the final 20 minutes as The Rock ran away with the win.

Both teams will have little time to rest as each will be back in action tomorrow night in another PSAC crossover game. Slippery Rock will host Shippensburg at 7:30 p.m. and Millersville will travel to Edinboro.
