Box Score (PDF)TOWSON, Md. – The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team hung tough and dropped a 69-57 decision on the road at Division I Towson University Friday night in an exhibition contest.

Townson won 25 games last season at the Division I level and Slippery Rock managed to stay close with the Tigers throughout the game, leading early on and keeping it within a respectable margin throughout the second half.

Towson led 31-23 at halftime and posted a 38-34 edge in the second half for the final margin.

Slippery Rock finished the game shooting 33.9 percent from the field, connecting on 21-of-62 attempts. The Rock were 27.8 percent (5-of-18) from beyond the 3-point line and just 47.6 percent (10-of-21) at the free throw line.

Towson finished the game 46.2 percent from the field, connecting on 24-of-52 attempts. The Tigers were just 20 percent from long range (2-of-10) and were 73.1 percent at the charity stripe (19-of-26).

Slippery Rock was led by
Frank Holloway with 15 points and five rebounds.
Antonio Butler added 14 points and a team-high seven rebounds to cap the double digit scorers.

Kelvin Goodwin added nine points and a team-high six assists.
Abdul King chipped in five points, as did
Cornelius Brown, and
Chaquille Pratt added four points.

Towson was led by John Davis off the bench with 15 points and nine rebounds. Four McGlynn added 12 points and Byron Hawkins chipped in 10 points.

Slippery Rock dropped to 1-8 in exhibition games against Division I opponents under head coach
Kevin Reynolds with the loss.

The Rock will officially open the 2014-15 season next Friday when they play Charleston at Glenville State at 8 p.m. in the PSAC-MEC Challenge. Slippery Rock will then face hosting Glenville State Saturday at 8 p.m. to end the crossover.
