SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Senior first baseman
John Shaffer smacked an RBI single to deep right-center field with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning of Friday's second game to give Slippery Rock University a 4-3 extra-inning win and a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division baseball doubleheader sweep of visiting California (Pa.) at Jack Critchfield Park.

Lou Trivino to a 4-0 win in Friday's first game.
Friday's wins extended SRU's current win streak to five games and gave the Green and White eight wins in their last nine games, a 29-15 overall record and an 11-7 PSAC-West mark.
The Game 2 win was SRU's third in as many extra-inning affairs this spring.
California, which began the day tied with Gannon for first place in the PSAC-West standings, saw its season records drop to 29-14 overall, 11-7 in division action.
The Rock and Vulcans, who ended Friday's action tied for second place in the PSAC-West standings, close out their four-game weekend and season series with a 2 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Consol Energy Park in Washington, Pa.
Gannon (21-13 overall, 13-5 PSAC-West), which swept a Friday doubleheader from Mercyhurst, enjoys a two-game lead over both SRU and California in the division standings.
Shaffer was 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI singles in Game 2. His first run-scoring hit came as part of a three-run Rock rally in the bottom of the fifth inning that gave SRU a 3-0 lead.
Junior shortstop
Will Kengor, the PSAC hitting leader with a .452 batting average, was also 4-for-5 in Game 2 after going 2-for-4 in the opening game.
The Rock, who began the day ranked sixth in the PSAC in team batting average (.303), collected 10 hits in Game 1 and 14 hits in Game 2.
Junior right fielder
Graeme Zaparzynski had an RBI single to plate the first Rock run in Game 2. The third tally in the bottom of the fifth scored on a wild pitch.
The Rock also got a pair of “gift runs” in Game 1. Sophomore third baseman
Jake Nogalo's RBI single in the second inning plated the first run of the game. The second run scored on a double-play ground out in the third inning, while the third run trotted across on a wild pitch in the fourth. Junior center fielder
Jake Weibley's slapped an RBI double in the fifth inning to account for the final run.
Trivino, who recorded his team-best seventh complete game of the season and improved his win-loss record to 6-4, struck out seven batters and did not issue a base on balls in Game 1.

Mike Dunn, the third and final pitcher used by Rock head coach
Jeff Messer, was the Game 2 winner. He allowed one hit, struck out two and walked two in two and two-thirds innings.
Sophomore right-hander
Garret Peterson allowed three hits, struck out three and walked one in five scoreless innings of action to open the game. Sophomore southpaw
Anton Constantino relieved Peterson and was charged with three earned runs on four hits and walked two in one and one-third innings.
