NORFOLK, Va. -- Junior right-hander
Lou Trivino pitched a no-hit shutout Saturday afternoon to lead Slippery Rock University to a 10-0 win over Bloomsburg University in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader at Virginia Wesleyan College.
Bloomsburg held a 2-1 lead at the end of three innings in the second game when action was stopped due to darkness. The suspended game will be resumed Sunday afternoon at Dinwiddie Sports Complex in Sutherland, Va.
The win was Trivino's second in as many starts this spring and The Rock's fifth in as many decisions this season.
Trivino struck out seven and walked two in his second complete-game performance of the season. Trivino, who tossed a one-hit shutout the previous Saturday, has struck out 14 and walked six in 14 innings pitched this spring.
Trivino's no-hitter was the first recorded by a Rock pitcher since
Joby Lapkowicz and
Zach Jeney each threw blanks in a game last spring.
Offensively, The Rock pounded out 12 hits, including five doubles, off four Bloomsburg pitchers.
Junior catcher
Ryan LaRose (pictured) led the offensive attack with three hits in four at bats, a double and five RBIs. Senior first baseman
John Shaffer was 3-for-3 and collected two RBIs.
The Rock take on Mansfield in a 10 a.m. nine-inning single game Sunday prior to the resumption of the suspended game.
