AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Senior first baseman John Shaffer smacked his first two home runs of the season, collected three RBIs and scored three runs Tuesday to lead Slippery Rock University to a 14-4 win over winless (0-13) Minnesota Duluth in NCAA Division II baseball action at Lake Myrtle Park.

Tuesday's win was the third consecutive recorded by The Rock and improved the Green and White's season record to 12-4.

The circuit clouts, a two-run blast in the top of the second inning and a solo shot in the ninth, accounted for both of Shaffer's hits in the game and made him one of seven Rock players to record multiple hits in the game.

Junior shortstop Will Kengor continued to swing a hot bat, as he was 4-for-5 with a triple, picked up one RBI and scored three runs.

Tuesday's effort extended Kengor's current string of consecutive multi-hit games to four and gave him eight for the season. Kengor ended the day with a team-best .459 batting average.

Junior center fielder Jake Weibley slapped a double and a triple to join Shaffer as Rock players with multiple extra-base hits in Tuesday's game.

Junior right fielder Brandon Myers had two hits, including a double, and picked up two RBIs, while junior utilityman Kevin Jovanovich had two hits, including a triple, picked up one RBI and scored two runs.

Jovanovich leads The Rock with 12 RBIs, while Myers has 10 and Kengor nine.

Sophomore Jake Nogalo, who has a .388 batting average this spring, had two hits and picked up one RBI to round out the list of Rock players with multiple hits in Tuesday's win.

Redshirt freshman infielder Jordan Faretta stroked a two-run single as part of a five-run Rock first-inning explosion and senior second baseman Matt Curtis picked up an RBI and scored two runs in the winning effort.

Redshirt freshman right-hander Jon Anderson (pictured above) was The Rock's starting and winning pitcher. He allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits, struck out five and walked four in the first five innings to pick up a win in his first decision of the season.

Junior righty Anthony Naso pitched two hitless innings in relief of Anderson, but yielded two earned runs as the result of walking five batters while striking out two.

Fellow junior righty Zac Anderson (no relation) allowed one hit, struck out one and walked two in the final two innings.

The outcome was never in doubt as The Rock scored five times in the top of the first inning and added three tallies in the second for an 8-0 lead before Minnesota Duluth got on the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom of the third.

SRU added two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to make it a 13-2 game and Minnesota Duluth got two back in the bottom of the seventh before Shaffer's solo home run accounted for the final run of the game.

Myers doubled home two runs and Faretta singled home a pair in The Rock's first-inning rally.

Shaffer smacked the first of his two home runs and Jovanovich tripled and scored on a wild pitch to account for the second-inning runs.

After going scoreless in the third and fourth innings, an RBI single by Nogalo and a run-scoring groundout by Myers plated the two Rock runs in the fifth.

Curtis and Jovanovich each had an RBI single and Kengor slapped an RBI triple to account for SRU's three runs in the sixth inning.

The Division II Rock close out their seven-game spring-break schedule Wednesday with an 11 a.m. single game vs. Division I Dartmouth College at Lake Myrtle Park.

SRU is then scheduled to open its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division schedule with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Lock Haven University, followed by a 1 p.m. Sunday twinbill vs. LHU at Jack Critchfield Park.
