SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Redshirt sophomore guard Maxx Rynd celebrated his first collegiate start by recording career-high totals of 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists Monday night to help lead Slippery Rock University to an 80-41 win over visiting Penn State New Kensington in non-conference men's basketball action in Morrow Field House.

Rynd, who started in place of injured senior point guard Sa'Quan Davis, was one of four Rock players who finished the game with a double-digit scoring total.

Senior center Maurice Lewis-Briggs took game-high scoring honors with 16 points and grabbed six rebounds for SRU. Senior forward Tabari Perry collected 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds to record his second consecutive "double-double" of the season, while junior guard Matej Delinac came off the bench to score 11 points.

Redshirt sophomore forward Erik Raleigh scored nine points and redshirt junior swingman Jordan Grady chipped in seven points and seven rebounds for The Rock, who improved their season record to 8-2.

Timothy Jones scored a tea-high 13 points in a substitute role for Penn State New Kensington, which suffered its eighth consecutive loss and saw its season record drop to 1-8.

The visiting Lions' point total was the lowest recorded by a Rock opponent since SRU hammered Penn State Fayette by a 105-37 score in the seventh game of the 2008-09 season, current Rock head coach Kevin Reynolds' rookie season.

Penn State New Kensington shot an frigid 26% (13 of 50) from the field, including an icy 2-for-15 (13%) showing from 3-point range, and made a respectable 13 of 16 (81%) free throws.

The Rock made 42% (25 of 59) of their action shots, with an 11-for-30 (37%) showing from 3-point range, and canned 19 of 23 (83%) free throws.

SRU dominated the rebounding battle by a 49-24 margin and was also on the low end of a 13-12 turnover comparison.

The Rock and Lions played on even terms for the first four minutes with the score tied 7-7 at that point before SRU outscored the guests by a 29-11 in the next 16 minutes to take a 36-18 advantage into halftime.

An 11-2 run to open the second half of action extended The Rock lead to 47-20 with 16 minutes left to play.

SRU held a 39-point, 66-27, lead with seven minutes left and had its largest lead, a 41-point, 80-39, advantage with one minute remaining.

Monday's game, the first of three consecutive home dates for SRU, marked the end of The Rock's fall-semester schedule and led the Green and White into an eight-day break for final examinations.

The Rock's next game is a Dec. 17 date with 17th-ranked and unbeaten (8-0) East Stroudsburg in the first of six consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "crossover" games. SRU hosts West Chester one night later. Both games are set to tip off at 7:30 p.m. in Morrow Field House.

Notes: The double-digit scoring effort was Rynd's third in 13 collegiate games played. His previous career-high scoring totals were 10 in a Dec. 30, 2012 Rock win over  Ohio University Eastern and again in a Nov. 24 SRU victory this season over the same squad … Tuesday's game marked the team-high third time this season Perry had 10 or more points and 10 or more rebounds in the same game. Perry has six "double-double" games to his credit in 64 games for The Rock … As a team, The Rock have recorded nine "double-doubles" this winter. Lewis-Briggs has two to his credit while Grady and junior forward Kelvin Dixon each have one … Monday's win was the 105th recorded by The Rock in six seasons under Reynolds' leadership. Reynolds' win total is the highest recorded by a Rock coach in his first six seasons and the fourth highest in school history. Reynolds is 22 wins away from third place on SRU's career wins chart, a spot held by Bob Barlett, who recorded 126 wins in nine seasons (1985-94). Barlett led The Rock to 93 wins in his first six seasons.
