CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team recorded its fourth consecutive win with a 74-55 victory at California University (Pa.) Saturday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action.

The Rock's fourth straight win improves their season records to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in PSAC-West play. California drops to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in divisional play.

Slippery Rock shot 45.3 percent from the field and held California to under 30 percent shooting at 28.8 percent.

Josh Martin paced the winning effort with 20 points, including a 10-of-11 performance at the free throw line. Kelvin Dixon added 16 points and six rebounds and Tabari Perry just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Sa'Quan Davis added eight points and Maurice Lewis-Briggs and Matej Delinac each chipped in six points to cap the top scorers.

The Rock made 24-of-53 attempts from the field, shot 27.3 percent from beyond the 3-point arc (3-of-11) and was 82.1 percent at the free throw line (23-of-28).

California was led by a 20-point effort from Tynell Fortune off the bench and a 17-point showing from Alonzo Murphy.

The Vulcans made 17-of-59 field goal attempts, shot 22.2 percent from 3-point (4-of-18) and were 77.3 percent from the free throw line (17-of-22).

Slippery Rock outscored California 36-16 in the paint and got 18 points off turnovers and eight face break points. The Vulcans managed no points on the fast break and 10 points off turnovers.

The Rock never trailed in the game, scoring the first four points and then throwing in a 13-0 run late in the opening half to push the advantage out to double digits at the break, 34-19.

California cut the deficit to 13 points early in the second half, but would get no closer than that as Slippery Rock pushed the advantage out to a game-high 25 points at 67-42 and cruised to the 19-point win.

The Rock will get little rest before their next outing as Ohio University Eastern will visit Morrow Field House for a non-conference game Sunday at 3 p.m.
