SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Senior center Maurice Lewis-Briggs recorded a 21-point, 14-rebound "double-double" Thursday night to lead hosting Slippery Rock University to a 91-77 win over Ohio Valley University in NCAA Division II men's basketball action at Morrow Field House.

The win was SRU's second consecutive, improved the Green and White's season record to 2-1 and gave Kevin Reynolds his 99th career victory.

Reynolds owns a 99-51 record in six seasons as The Rock's head coach.

Conversely, Thursday's loss was Ohio Valley's fourth in as many games this season.

Lewis-Briggs, a transfer from Division I Morehead State University, was one of five Rock players who finished the game with double-digit scoring totals. Senior forward Tabari Perry scored 19 points, senior point guard Sa'Quan Davis added 12 points, five assists and three steals, junior forward Kelvin Dixon had 11 points and seven rebounds and junior guard Antonio Butler chipped in 10 points and six rebounds in a substitute role.

David Sinickas scored a team-high 20 points for Ohio Valley, while Sequan Lawrence recorded a "double-double" with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jerry Macon Jr. added 13 points and Arturs Vitins contributed 12 points to the losing effort.

The Rock finished the game with a respectable 42% (29-of-69) efficiency on its field-goal attempts with a 44% (8-of-18) showing from 3-point range and canned 76% (25 of 33) of their free-throw opportunities.

Ohio Valley shot 38% (23 of 60) from the field, 33% (8 of 24) from long range and 74% (23 of 31) from the foul line.

Lewis-Briggs led The Rock to a 48-39 rebounding advantage and SRU was on the low end of a 12-10 turnover comparison.

Ohio Valley took an early 4-0 lead and was ahead for the first five-plus minutes of action before The Rock ran off 11 unanswered points to turn an 8-7 deficit into a lead they would not relinquish.

SRU held a pair of 11-point leads, the latter one (30-19) coming with eight minutes left in the first half, and took a seven-point, 40-33 advantage into halftime.

Perry scored 12 of The Rock's first 19 second-half points to help propel the hosts to a 59-40 advantage with 15 minutes left to play in the game but Ohio Valley refused to go away quietly.

The Fighting Scots outscored SRU by a 26-10 margin in the next eight minutes and closer the gap to three points, 69-66, with 7:17 remaining.

A 16-6 Rock run pushed the lead to 13 points, 85-72, with 2:45 left to play and snuffed out any flickering hopes by the guests of a come-from-behind win.

The Rock are idle until Wednesday when they open their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division schedule with an 8 p.m. home game against Clarion University.
