BLOOMSBURG, Pa – Slippery Rock University scored the first seven points of the game Saturday afternoon and never looked back en route to an 84-66 win over hosting Bloomsburg University in opening-day action of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference men's basketball schedule.

The “crossover” win gave SRU, a member of the PSAC's-Western Division, a 3-1 overall record heading into Sunday's 3 p.m. game at Mansfield University.

Bloomsburg, like Mansfield a PSAC-Eastern Division competitor, suffered its second consecutive loss and saw its overall record drop to 2-3.

Junior forward Tabari Perry led the winning Rock attack with a career-high 24-point and season-high 12-rebound “double-double.”

Junior guard Sa'Quan Davis (right picture) scored a season-high 16 points in a substitute role for SRU, senior forward Devin Taylor had 12 points and eight rebounds and senior guard Aubin Reeves added 10 points and five assists.

Daniel Kysnyer scored a team-high 13 points for Bloomsburg, Nasir Jones added 11 points and Lorenzo Christmas chipped in 10 points.

The Rock held Bloomsburg's Dontahe Jordan, a Preseason All-PSAC-East selection, to only five points and four rebounds.

The Rock finished the game with a 43% (31-72) efficiency on their field-goal attempts, made 38% (7-18) of their 3-point shots and canned 83% (15-18) of their free throw opportunities.

SRU, the national leader (NCAA Division II) in rebounding margin one year ago, outrebounded Bloomsburg by a 41-33 margin Saturday. The Rock also took better care of the basketball, as evidenced their 12 turnovers compared to 21 for Bloomsburg.

Bloomsburg shot 45% (24-53) from the field, 39% (7-18) from 3-point range and 58% (11-19) from the foul line.

The Rock never led by less than three points in the game and held a 10-point (25-15) advantage at the midway mark of the first half. The guest held their largest first-half lead at the intermission with a 45-26 margin.

SRU extended its lead to 21 points (55-34) five minutes into the final half of action and held its largest lead of the game, a 30-point (82-52) advantage, with 4:30 left to play before fifth-year Rock head coach Kevin Reynolds sent in the reserves to finish out the game.
