Rock men drop 80-73 overtime decision at Lake Erie

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Lake Erie College erased a 16-point deficit in the final 18 minutes of regulation action, then outscored visiting Slippery Rock University by a 16-9 margin in overtime to record an 80-73 non-conference men's basketball win Saturday afternoon.

The Rock (2-1) scored the first five and 11 of the first 13 points in the game en route to a 12-point, 37-25, halftime lead and held a 41-25 lead after two minutes of action in the second half before Lake Erie (3-0) began its comeback.

The teams ended regulation time knotted at 64-64 thanks to a 12-6 run by Lake Erie in the final five minutes.

The Storm continued their run by scoring the first five points in overtime, only to see SRU respond with a 5-0 run to tie the score at 69-69 with two minutes left in the extra period.

The score was tied at 71-71 with 1:15 left before Lake Erie closed out the game with a 9-2 run.

Senior guard Darious Clark led The Rock attack with 20 points. Senior guard Aubin Reeves added 17 points, junior guard Sa'Quan Davis chipped in 11 points and senior forward Devin Taylor grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.

Jamil Dudley, Garrett Sims and Riley Thomas each scored 16 points to pace the winning attack, while Rich Austin added 13 points.

The Rock finished the game with a frigid 38% (23-61) effort on their field-goal attempts with a 26% (5-19) showing from 3-point range. SRU, which won the rebounding battle by a 41-29 margin, made 22 of 25 (88%) free throws.

Lake Erie shot 49% (25-51) from the field, 50% (8-16) from 3-point range and 76% (22-29) from the foul line. The Storm were also on the low end of a 19-14 turnover comparison.

SRU will look to bounce back and regain its winning ways Dec. 1 when it travels to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference rival Bloomsburg University for a 3 p.m. game.

That will be the second of four consecutive road games The Rock will play before hosting PSAC rival West Chester in a 7:30 p.m. game Dec. 18 in Morrow Field House.
