LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University seniors Alyssa Barrett (women's soccer) and Devin Goda (football) headlined the list of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Fall 2011 Top 10 Award recipients released Friday by the conference office.

PSAC Top 10 Awards are presented in the fall, winter and spring seasons to five female and five male recipients who excel in both the classroom and in the area of competition. The award winners are determined by a vote of PSAC sports information directors. The PSAC Top 10 Award program originated in the 1997-98 academic year.

With the selection of Barrett and Goda as Fall Top 10 Award recipients this fall, SRU has now had at least one student-athlete receive that honor in each of 15 years the awards have been presented.

By virtue of their selection as a Fall Top 10 Award winner, Barrett and Goda are now eligible for the PSAC Pete Nevins Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award presented at the conclusion of the academic year to the conference's top female and male student-athlete. SRU has had a student-athlete named as PSAC Scholar-Athlete seven times in the award's 21-year history.

To be a candidate for the PSAC Top 10 Awards, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum of a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and must be a starter or key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials for their respective team. The sports eligible for Fall Top 10 Awards include men's and women's soccer, field hockey, volleyball, football and men's and women's cross country.

Barrett, a senior communications and emerging technology major from Rochester, N.Y., caps her collegiate career with her first selection to the PSAC Top-10. The honor accompanies her first team Capital One Academic All-District selection last fall.

The only four-year starter on the women's soccer team, Barrett made the transition to more of a defensive midfielder role this season and excelled, helping Slippery Rock to post a school record shutout streak of 11 consecutive games. That streak ranks fifth all-time in Division II history.

Barrett notched one assist this season to match her defensive prowess, helping Slippery Rock to a 16-5-2 overall record and berth in the NCAA Round of 16 for the first time in program history. The 16 wins is also the second most in a single season for the program.

For her efforts on the field, Barrett was named to third team All-Region honors by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

For her career, she appeared in 83 games with 79 starts, tallying 11 goals and eight assists for 30 points.

On top of her outstanding athletic and academic accomplishments, Barrett is also highly active as a volunteer. She is a member of the SRU Athletes for Forgotten Angels group that just recently spent a week in Haiti delivering sports equipment, clothes and school supplies and spending the week helping the children in the earthquake-devastated country.

Goda, a safety management major from Monongahela (Elizabeth Forward H.S.), earned honorable mention All-America recognition last fall from both the Don Hansen Football Committee and D2Football.com. He also attained first-team Capital One Academic All-America® and first-team All-PSAC-West football honors after helping lead The Rock to an 8-3 final record, their first PSAC-West championship since 2000 and their first PSAC championship-game appearance since 1974.

Goda ranked second in the PSAC in catches per game (6.8) and third in yards per game (93.5). He caught 75 passes for 1,028 yards and 11 touchdowns. Those totals ranked as the third, fourth and second best, respectively, among SRU's all-time leaders. Goda had 100 or more pass receiving yards in five of Rock's 11 games and caught career-high 11 passes in a Week 3 loss at West Chester. He was selected as the PSAC-West “Offensive Player of the Week” Oct. 23 after he set school records with 225 pass receiving yards and four touchdown receptions at Lock Haven.

Goda, who played in 43 of The Rock's 44 games since 2008 and led SRU to three consecutive winning seasons, finished his four-year Rock career ranked second in SRU history in both receptions (173) and yardage (2,259). He was a three-time All-PSAC-West selection, earning second-team honors in both 2009 and 2010, a two-time Academic All-District first-team selection and a four-time PSAC Scholar Athlete.

Goda was one of five Fall 2011 Top 10 Award winners who received Academic All-America® honors last fall and one of four Top 10 Award recipients who were named to first-team honors.

The other Fall 2011 Top 10 Award recipients included Clarion University's Rhianon Brady (volleyball) and Shawn Sopic (football), East Stroudsburg University's Rose Mascoli (women's cross country ), Indiana (Pa.) volleyball student-athlete Danielle Ostendorf, Shippensburg University's Stephen Schelander (men's cross country) and Neely Spence (women's cross country), Bloomsburg University men's soccer student-athlete Bryce Shaffer and Mercyhurst College football student-athlete Ian Wild.
