KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Junior guard Devin Taylor came up one rebound and one blocked shot shy of a triple-double Tuesday night in the process of leading the Slippery Rock University men's basketball team to a 76-73 win over hosting Kutztown University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "crossover" action.

Taylor scored a season- and game-high 25 points, grabbed nine rebounds and rejected nine Golden Bears shots to pace a Rock attack that featured three players with double-digit scoring totals.

Senior guard Jabril Bailey and senior forward Maron Brown each scored 17 points to complement Taylor's effort. Brown also snared a game-high 17 points to record his eighth "double-double" of the season.

Julius Gray scored a team-high 17 points for Kutztown (6-4).

Tuesday's win was the eighth in the last 10 games for SRU and improved the Green and White's season record to 8-4.

Final statistics showed The Rock hitting on 46% (29-63) of its field goal attempts, 33% (6-18) of its 3-point shots and 67% (12-18) of its free throws.

Maron Brown
Kutztown, on the other hand, shot 32% (25-77) from the field, 35% (6-17) from 3-point range and 74% (17-23) from the foul line.

The hosts held a 49-46 advantage in rebounds and forced The Rock into 16 turnovers while committing 11 miscues.

The Rock held an 11-point, 35-24, lead at halftime and extended the margin to 14 points, 42-28, three minutes into the second half of action before Kutztown came roaring back.

The Golden Bears outscored SRU by a 16-3 margin in the next four minutes and a 32-16 margin in the next 10 minutes to erase The Rock lead and take a 60-58 edge of their own with seven minutes left to play.

The lead see-sawed back and forth for the next five and a half minutes before Brown hit a pair of jumpers and Taylor nailed a 3-pointer to account for a 7-2 Rock run in the final 90 seconds of action.

The Rock returns to action Saturday, when they will host Bloomsburg in a 3 p.m. crossover game in Morrow Field House. Mansfield comes calling the following day to close out the four-game PSAC interdivisional series.
