Rock pounds out 10-7 win over regional rival Charleston (W. Va.)

AUBURNDALE, Fla. --
Six players collected two or more hits Tuesday afternoon to lead the Slippery Rock University baseball team to a 10-7 win over NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional rival Charleston (W. Va.).

Junior catcher/first baseman  Derek DiRuscia led the 16-hit Rock offensive attack with a 3-for-5 game that included a double. He also picked up two RBIs.

Sophomore right fielder Matt Kosik and senior second baseman #Billy Messer were each 2-for-5 with a triple and one RBI, junior center fielder Matt Howard was 2-for-5 with an RBI and junior shortstop Adam Jury and freshman third baseman Jamison Walck were each also 2-for-5.

All The Rock starters had at least one hit in the game as the Green and White won their second straight game and improved their season record to 6-5.

Sophomore southpaw Colin McCoy recorded his first collegiate win in relief of starting pitcher Don Pugliese. McCoy allowed two earned runs on three hits, struck out three and walked three in three and one-third innings of mound duty.

Pugliese, a senior right-hander, struck out seven, walked three and allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits in the first four and two-thirds innings.

Senior righty Justin Thomas struck out one and walked two in the final one and two-thirds innings to close out the win.

The Rock concludes the Florida portion of its spring-break southern trip on Wednesday with a 10 a.m. game against Southwest Minnesota State.

SRU then heads for Savannah, Ga., where it will meet Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division rival California in a four-game series Friday and Saturday to open the division schedule.

Following the California series, The Rock turns its sights towards the home opener scheduled for next Tuesday,  March 16, against Washington Adventist University. First pitch of the doubleheader at Jack Critchfield Park is set for 1 p.m
