Rock doubles up Ohio Eastern, 92-46

Jabril Bailey scored 19 points and Maron Brown added a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead The Rock to their first win of the season, 92-46 over Ohio University Eastern Friday night.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team picked up its first win of the season Friday night, routing Ohio University Eastern 92-46 in a non-conference game at Morrow Field House.

Four Slippery Rock (1-2) players scored in double figures, led by Jabril Bailey and Maron Brown, and nine of the 10 players that saw action posted at least one point for The Rock. Ohio University Eastern (3-4) was led by Nick Schuetz with 13 points.

Bailey scored a game-high 19 points to go along with six rebounds and two assists. Brown picked up his third double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Torrance Timothy chipped in 16 points, four rebounds and one assist and John Bayardelle added 15 points and five rebounds off the bench.

Jade Burka nearly reached his first double-double of the season, pulling down 10 rebounds and scoring eight points. Jon Valeriano led the team with nine assists, while Tommy Kelly and John Bossle Jr. each added seven points.

The Rock shot 46.9 percent from the floor, converting on 38-of-81 field goals, including 9-of-27 3-points. SRU was 7-for-9 at the free throw line.

The Bobcats shot just 25.4 percent (16-of-63) from the floor, including 7-of-9 from behind the 3-point arc. OUE made 13 trips to the free throw line, converting on seven tries.

Friday's game was all Slippery Rock from the start as SRU scored the first five points of the game and never allowed Ohio Eastern a chance to tie the game.

The Rock ran out to a 14 point lead at 21-7 with 13:10 to play in the first half before the Bobcats chipped back at the lead with a 7-0 run to bring the score to 21-14 with 9:27 left in the half.

After a timeout by Slippery Rock, SRU game out with a 12-3 run to increase the lead to 17 at 33-16 with 5:24 left in the half. The lead increased to as much as 19 with just under a minute to play before going to halftime at 42-24.

The Rock opened the second half with a 14-4 run and increased its lead steadily throughout the half until it reached a game-high 46 points at 92-46 with just 24 seconds to play.

The 92 points scored is a season-high for SRU, while the 46 points allowed is also a season-low.

The Rock will hit the road for their next five games before returning home to face Ohio University Eastern again Dec. 29. Slippery Rock's next game is scheduled for Nov. 27 at Chestnut Hill College. Tipoff has been set for 2 p.m.
