CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- The Rock was denied sole possession of fourth place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division standings Wednesday night as it dropped a 68-54 decision at division-leading California U. of Pa.

But the Green and White remain alive in their quest for SRU's first PSAC playoff berth since the 1999-2000 season.

SRU and Indiana remained tied for the fourth and final PSAC-West playoff berth as IUP lost a 72-62 decision Wednesday night at Shippensburg.

The Rock (7-19 overall, 4-7 PSAC-West) can lock up the playoff berth with a win Saturday over Clarion (3 p.m. in Morrow Field House) and an IUP loss to Lock Haven (7:30 p.m. in Indiana).

SRU will also earn the playoff berth if it loses to Clarion and Lock Haven beats IUP.

An IUP win over Lock Haven will assure the Crimson Hawks of the playoff berth, regardless of the outcome of the SRU-Clarion game.

The Rock never led in Wednesday night's game as California scored the first six points of the game en route to a 15-point, 26-11, advantage midway through the opening stanza.

SRU trimmed the deficit to eight points, 34-36, at halftime but that was as close as The Rock came to pulling off the upset.

California (22-4, 11-0 PSAC-W) held a 25-point, 60-35, lead with just over eight minutes left to play in the game before SRU scored 19 of the final 27 points.

Cory Somerville scored a team-high 12 points for SRU, while Rashiid Coleman added 11 points and five assists and Erroll Robinson grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Behind the lead of Coleman and Somerville, Rock bench players outscored the five starting players by a 20-6 margin in the opening 20 minutes and by a 33-21 margin in the game.
