INDIANA, Pa. -- The Rock sustained its first loss of the season Tuesday night as Mansfield took advantage of a frigid SRU shooting effort to hand the Green and White a 78-65 setback in first-round action of the Indiana Regional Medical Center Holiday Classic.

SRU, which saw its season record fall to 7-1,  shot a frigid 35.% (24 of 68) from the field and 58.8% (10 of 17) from the foul line. Mansfield, meanwhile, hit 45% (23 of 51) of its field goal tries and buried 25 of 30 (83%) free throws.

The Mountaineers also outrebounded SRU by a 47-32 margin en route to their fourth win in five games this winter.

Senior forward Denell Stephens (pictured above) led The Rock attack with 20 points and 11 rebounds, his fifth "double-double" effort of the season.

Senior point guard Kyle Camper added 14 points, six rebounds and five assists, while sophomore guard Maurice Douglas chipped in 12 points and sophomore forward Maron Brown grabbed five rebounds.

The Rock was in control of the situation early on as it scored the first five points of the contest and had a 12-4 advantage at the 15:30 mark of the opening period.

Mansfield battled back to outscore SRU by a 23-12 margin in the next nine minutes to take a 27-24 lead with six minutes left before intermission and never trailed thereafter.

The Mountaineers had a nine-point, 35-26, lead with 3:20 left in the half before SRU outscored them by a 10-4 margin to trim the difference to three, 39-36, at the break.

The Rock trimmed the margin to one point on two occasions in the second half, the latter a 41-40 difference with 15:30 left to play in the game, but never got over the hump.

The final 13-point margin was the largest lead of the game.

SRU will look to bounce back from its first loss of the season and head into the holiday break on winning note when it takes on Davis & Elkins (W. Va.) in a 5:30 p.m. game Wednesday to tipoff second-day action of the Holiday Classic.
