PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Seniors Denell Stephens and Erroll Robinson scored 19 and 18 points, respectively, Saturday night to lead The Rock attack in a 105-84 exhibition-game loss at Big East Conference member/Division I Providence College.

Stephens (pictured above), a transfer from Angelo State (Texas), also grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds for the Green and White in the unofficial debut of first-year Rock head coach Kevin Reynolds.

Reynolds and The Rock officially tip off the 2008-09 schedule next Saturday with a 3 p.m. home game against Ohio University-Eastern in Morrow Field House.

Stephens and Robinson were two of four Rock players who finished Saturday's game with double-digit scoring totals. Michael Evans Jr., a transfer from Division I Morehead State and Daytona Beach (Fla.) Community College, had 13 points and Maron Brown, a transfer from Cecil (Md.) College, added 11 points.

Senior wing Jamar Scales, one of five holdovers from last year's Rock squad, had eight points and six rebounds, while senior guard Kyle Camper, a transfer from Division I Iona College, handed out 11 assists and scored nine points.

The Rock, which trailed by a 49-37 score at halftime, shot a respectable 44.6% from the field, nailed nine of 26 3-point attempts and hit one of its only three free throw opportunities.

Next Saturday's game vs. Ohio University-Eastern will be the first of five straight home games SRU will play to open the 2008-09 season.
