SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Junior guard
Michael Evans Jr. pumped in a game-high 37 points and senior forward
Denell Stephens added 31 points and 17 rebounds Tuesday day as The Rock improved its season record to 4-0 with a 101-94 victory over visiting Ashland (Ohio) University in non-conference action in Morrow Field House.
The Rock, unbeaten after four games for the first time since the 1993-94 season, will be idle for seven days before they host Penn State-Fayette in a 7 p.m. game Dec. 2 in Morrow Field House.
A win in that game would give the Green and White their first 5-0 start since the 1990-91 season.
Tuesday's win over Ashland (2-1) was the toughest of the first four for The Rock to record as the visiting Eagles continually clawed their way back every time it appeared SRU was about to run away with things.
Evans Jr. (pictured above) and Stephens were two of three Rock players who finished with double-digit scoring totals and Stephens was one of two Rock players record a "double-double."
Sophomore forward
Maron Brown, this week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division "Player of the Week," recorded his third straight "double-double" as he finished with 11 points and 16 rebounds.
Senior point guard
Kyle Camper finished one point away from also recording a "double-double" as he had nine points to go along with 21 assists, his fourth straight double-digit handout effort.
Three Ashland players scored 20 or more points, led by Bret Wackerly's 29 points. Bylynn Hatcher and Kale Richardson chipped in 20 points each for the Eagles.
