Rock losing streak now at nine games as Edinboro wins 83-68

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Rock sustained its ninth straight loss Wednesday as visiting Edinboro handed the Green and White an 83-68 setback.

Freshman post player Jade Burka scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead The Rock (2-13) effort, while junior point guard Darnell Johnson added nine points, seven assists and six rebounds.

The loss will seek to end its skid Saturday when it travels to Lock Haven (1-15, 1-0 PSAC-W) for a 3 p.m. division game.

Edinboro closed the first half with a 25-6 run in the final eight minutes to take a 14-point, 42-28, lead into intermission.
 
Prior to that, The Rock had led most of the way. SRU held a seven-point (14-7) lead after seven minutes of action and was up by five points (22-17) before the Fighting Scots went on their run.
 
Edinboro made 10 of 15 shots from the floor, including a 3-for-5 effort from beyond the arc, in the final eight minutes of the first half.
 
The guests shot 54.8% (17 of 31) from the field in the opening 20 minutes, including a 6-of-10 effort from 3-point range, and made two of three free throws.
 
SRU, meanwhile, shot 41.9% (13 of 31) from the field in the opening half, made one of four trey tries and hit only one of four free throws. But The Rock held a 16-15 rebounding edge.

The Rock never narrowed the deficit to less than 12 points in the final 20 minutes of action and trailed by 25 points (64-39) with 12 minutes left to play.

Edinboro finished the game shooting 51.5% (34 of 66) from the field, 50% (9 of 18) from 3-point range and a frigid 46.2% (6 of 13) from the foul line.

The Rock ended the game with a 42.6% (26 of 61) efficiency from the field, hit three of nine trey tries and sank 54.2% (13 of 24) of its charity tosses.

The teams battled to a 34-34 stalemate on the boards.

Joseph Jones scored a game-high 22 points and handed out eight assists for Edinboro, while Gil Cummings added 17 points and five assists and Ryan McLemore grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
