Slippery Rock, Pa. - The Rock rode a big-play attack to a 45-9 win Saturday night over visiting Kutztown in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "crossover" action.
Corey Manfull rushed for a career-high 170 yards on 19 carries and scored three touchdowns, including a 96-yarder, to lead The Rock (4-0). The leading rusher in the PSAC also had scoring runs of 2 and 6 yards.
The Rock also scored on an 87-yard interception return by linebacker Richie Barnes, a 14-yard reverse run by wide receiver Paul Favers, a 27-yard run by quarterback Nate Crookshank and a 31-yard field goal by C.J. Bahr.
Crookshank completed nine of 13 passes for 168 yards in three-plus quarters of action.
The only Kutztown (2-2) points came on field goals by Matt Dineen of 35, 21 and 30 yards.
The Rock finished the game with 436 yards in total offense (262 rushing, 174 passing), while Kutztown had 298 total yards (108 rushing, 190 passing).
Kutztown quarterback Kyle Spotts was 20 of 37 passing for 190 yards and had three passes intercepted, two by Barnes and one by Eric Wofford.
The Rock defense also forced and recovered a Kutztown fumble.
SRU hosts PSAC-Western Division archrival Indiana (Pa.) next Saturday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on DiSpirito Field at Thompson Stadium.
