ERIE, Pa. -- Point Park rode a 26-6 run early in the second half to a 94-70 win Friday night over The Rock in first-round action of the Gary Miller Classic hosted by Gannon University.
SRU (0-2) will meet either Gannon or Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) at 6 p.m. Saturday in the tournament's consolation game.
Erroll Robinson scored a team-high 22 points Friday night for The Rock, while Darnell Johnson added 16 points and Joseph Vines had 10 points.
Jade Burka grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and Ken Ottrix had five rebounds and six blocked shots.
The Rock stayed with the run-and-gun Pioneers for most of the opening half as the score was tied at 29-29 with 4:30 left before halftime. But Point Park (6-1) closed out the first half with a 13-3 run to take a 42-32 lead into intermission.
SRU scored the first four points of the second half to trim the margin to six points, 42-36, only to see the Pioneers ride the aforementioned 26-6 run to a 68-42 lead with 11:45 left to play.
The Rock never got closer than 17 points in the final 11-plus minutes and trailed by 28 points, 82-54, with 6:30 left.
As the was the case in last Tuesday's season-opening loss to Mercyhurst, The Rock effort severely hampered by a lackluster performance at the free throw line. SRU made only 12 of 26 charity tosses, 46.2% efficiency, Friday night.
The Rock shot 46.4% (26 of 56) from the field and 27.3% (6 of 22) from 3-point range.
