Former Slippery Rock baseball standout, and veteran coach, Billy Herman completed his second year as an assistant with the SRU baseball program in 2025.
 
CAREER AT A GLANCE
• Herman has helped guide The Rock to a 59-37 (.615) record with a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament appearances during his time as a member of Jeff Messer’s coaching staff.
• In addition to being a former standout for Messer as a player, Herman brings a wealth of coaching experience both on the college and high school levels with him to The Rock.  
• Herman has coached on both the Division I and II levels in the NCAA as well as being a highly successful head coach at Grove City High School where he won 78 games, a regional championship and a District 10 title during his time leading the Eagles.

ATHLETIC CAREER
• Following a heralded prep career at Grove City High School, Herman committed to Slippery Rock and went on to start 202 of 205 games played as a four-year starter (2006-09).
• Herman was a career .321 hitter for The Rock with 160 runs scored, seven home runs and 115 RBIs.
• He is the program’s career leader in both games played and games started while also ranking third all-time at SRU in walks (93), fourth in hits (226), fourth in runs (160), fifth in doubles (51) and seventh in total bases (308).
• Herman helped to lead The Rock to four consecutive winning seasons as a student-athlete as SRU went a combined 130-77 (.628) between 2006-09.
• Individual honors for Herman included being a four-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete and earning All-PSAC West recognition three times – once as a second baseman (2006) and twice at third base (2007, 2008).
