A former Rock track and field student-athlete, Seth Little stepped up and became an SRU assistant coach in 2007-08, serving as assistant jumps coach for the Green and White.
In four seasons as a Slippery Rock coach, Little has overseen eight All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference honorees, one PSAC champion and one national qualifier.
During the 2010-11 season, Little helped coach both Terrace Draper and Kim Stitt to second-place finishes in the triple jump at the outdoor PSAC Championships to earn All-PSAC honors. Draper also earned All-PSAC accolades during the indoor season with another second-place showing.
Little had his work cut out for him during his rookie coaching year as he had only one upperclassman. But, emphasizing the techniques and fundamentals that worked for him, he quickly produced confidence in his young crew.
At her first indoor meet of the year, sophomore Serena Bond set a provisional national qualifying mark in the triple jump at the Kent State Tune-Up Meet. Bond went on to earn all-conference awards with a third-place finish at the PSAC indoor championships and a second-place at the PSAC outdoor meet. Bond followed that performance by winning the PSAC indoor title at the 2009 meet.
Under Little’s guidance, Draper has developed to be one of the best jumpers in the conference. Draper finished off his career this past season by setting a school-record in the triple jump at 14.64 meters.
As his fifth year of coaching approaches, Little has confidence in his jumpers’ talents and hard work will pay off big-time at the PSAC Championships.
Little knows of what he speaks. As a student-athlete, he was a multiple all-conference long and triple jumper during his Rock career. In 2004, he was the conference runner-up in the long jump and a member of the PSAC champion 4x100m relay.
Little owns both a bachelor’s degree in biology and masters in education from Slippery Rock.
