Tyler McCarthy will begin his second season as the graduate assistant coach for the Slippery Rock University women’s soccer team in 2019.
While earning his master’s degree in Business Administration, McCarthy will assist head coach Jessica Griggs and assistant coach Mark Sappington in all facets of the program.
In his first season on Griggs’ staff, McCarthy helped guide The Rock to a 12-5-2 overall record, a 10-4-2 mark in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and a PSAC Tournament berth.
McCarthy joined the coaching profession after playing men’s soccer for The Rock and California (Pa.).
Prior to his appointment as an SRU assistant, McCarthy played two seasons with the Vulcans and started all 17 games last year for the Slippery Rock men’s soccer team. He recorded a team-leading six goals including tallying one goal apiece in three straight contests. He also managed a hat trick in a 4-0 victory over his former team, California.
McCarthy earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from SRU in 2018.
