After serving as a student assistant on head coach Bobby McGraw’s coaching staff for the Slippery Rock University women’s basketball team a year ago, Krista Pietropola will move up to the role of graduate assistant for the 2019-20 season.

As a graduate assistant, Pietropola will assist McGraw and assistant coach Chenara Wilson in all facets of the program while pursuing a master’s degree in Business Administration.

During her first season on The Rock’s coaching staff in 2018-19, SRU won 12 games and just missed out on a qualifying for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament.

The highlight of the year for Pietropola and SRU was a 72-61 victory over 10th-ranked California University (Pa.). The win snapped The Rock’s 35-game losing streak to the Vulcans and marked just the second time in program history that SRU defeated a team ranked in the top 10 of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association national poll.

The 2018-19 season ended with The Rock ranked second in the PSAC in turnovers per game (13.7), fourth in turnover margin (+1.82), fourth in offensive rebounds per game (12.7), fifth in rebounds per game (38.3) and fifth in points per game (70.9). Nationally, The Rock was 26th in turnovers per game.

Pietropola joined Slippery Rock’s coaching staff after great collegiate career in which she played 84 games for The Rock over three seasons from 2015-18. She ended her playing career ranked 12th in program history in defensive rebounds (291), 13th in in 3-pointers made (84), 13th in 3-point field goal percentage and 16th in blocked shots (37).
