Dave Labor begins his 18th season as an assistant with The Rock track and field programs, where he will again tutor the sprinters and hurdlers. Labor has been recognized by his peers as one of the top assistant coaches in the region, and in the nation, having been named the Regional Assistant Coach of the Year on multiple occasions.
Labor’s sprinters and hurdlers have earned 17 All-America honors and dominated the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, as evidenced by the accumulation of over 66 PSAC individual championships including 13 of the last 16 women’s 400m hurdle titles.
2010-11 was another season of All-American performances and PSAC championships for Labor’s athletes. Allison Smith, who was making her fourth trip to the NCAA championships, placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to earn the second All-America honor of her career. Fellow runner Amanda Seigworth also qualified for the national championships in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles.
Four Rock sprinters and hurdlers earned All-PSAC honors at the 2010-11 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. On the men’s team, DJ Chisom and Kris Stalma produced second place finishes in the 60-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles respectively. The Rock women were paced at the indoor championships by third-place finishes from Allison Smith (60-meter hurdles) and Tiffany Tedesco (60-meter dash).
The success carried over into the outdoor season as the women’s track and field nearly captured the team championship thanks in part to the efforts of Labor’s sprinters and hurdlers. Amanda Seigworth, who was named the track MVP, won the 400-meter hurdles and finished in second place, just one spot ahead of Smith in the 100-meter hurdles. SRU also captured the women’s 4x100-meter relay title thanks to the team of Seigworth, Smith, Rachel Knapp and Kaela Snyder.
Leading the outdoor hurdle competitors for the men were Ethan Geisler, who placed third in the 400-meter hurdles and Kris Stalma, who came in third place in the 110-meter hurdles.
Labor is the former head coach at Grove City High School, where he was named the National High School Federation Coach of the Year and captured two Mercer County Conference Championships.
While at Grove City, Coach Labor had a hurdler qualify for the state championship meet every year and his team placed third at the 1989 state meet.
