Andy Hoggarth will enter his third season as the Slippery Rock University men’s soccer team in 2016.
Hoggarth built on an outstanding first season at SRU in 2014 with another stellar campaign in 2015 that saw him lead Slippery Rock to a 14-6 record and the program’s eighth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship.
Hoggarth has totaled an impressive record of 25-13 record in two years at Slippery Rock. He is already the eighth winningest head coach in SRU men’s soccer history.
The 2015 squad led the PSAC, and ranked 35th in the nation, in goals scored with 40. Defensively, Slippery Rock allowed just 20 goals, the second fewest in the PSAC. Hoggarth coached All-PSAC honorees Peter Boylan, Ryan Boylan, Ryan Lutke and Matt Sangermano. Lutke went on to earn all-region honors as well.
In his first season in 2014, Hoggarth guided The Rock to an 11-7 overall record and a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference mark of 7-4, earning SRU a bid into the PSAC Tournament in addition to being ranked among the top 10 teams in the region throughout the season.
The 11 wins is tied for the most wins by a first-year Slippery Rock head coach in program history.
Under Hoggarth, SRU’s Ryan Boylan, Peter Boylan, Stephen Donnelly and Dom Francis earned All-PSAC accolades with Ryan Boylan and Donnelly being named to the Daktronics All-Region team.
Slippery Rock named Hoggarth head men's soccer coach May 30, 2014.
A native of England and a graduate of Northumbria University, Hoggarth spent the 2013 season as an assistant coach with the University of Akron women's soccer team. Prior to that appointment, he served as the head coach of both the men's and women's soccer teams at nearby Thiel College for six seasons from 2007-12.
While at Thiel, Hoggarth vastly increased the roster size of both programs, increasing the men's roster from 12 student-athletes to more than 30 and increasing the women's roster from nine student-athletes to more than 30 as well. He also increased the winning percentage of both programs and the grade point average and retention of student-athletes.
At Thiel, Hoggarth also served as the co-chair of the physical education department, a role that saw him oversee the coaching minor and help with the development and delivery of the classes in the physical education major.
Before taking over at Thiel, Hoggarth spent two years from 2005-07 as the associate head coach and goalkeeper coach at Shenandoah University, where he also received a master's degree in 2010 in education with a focus in health and physical education.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Hoggarth has spent the last two years as the head coach of AFC Cleveland, a club team that plays in the National Premier Soccer League. There, he was tasked with the development and growth of the program, all coaching duties and marketing responsibilities.
Before coming to the United States, Hoggarth served as the health promoter and goalkeeper development officer for the Middlesbrough Football Club in Middlesbrough, England from 2003-05.
Hoggarth owns professional credentials from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America that include the national diploma and the advanced national diploma. He also owns an English Football Association preliminary license.
