Thomas "Tank" Shiffert enters his second year as a graduate assistant on head coach Kevin Reynolds’ staff for the Slippery Rock men’s basketball team in 2017-18.
Shiffert has a wide-range of duties at Slippery Rock, assisting Reynolds and assistant coach Ian Grady with all facets of the program.
In his first season at The Rock, Shiffert helped guide SRU to a 14-15 overall record and a 10-12 mark in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division play, which was good enough to qualify for the PSAC Tournament.
Shiffert came to The Rock from Moravian College, where he served as an assistant coach in 2015-16.
Prior to his time at Moravian, Shiffert served as a student manager for the East Stroudsburg University men’s basketball team for four seasons. His responsibilities with the Warriors included helping to manage the program's daily operations, including practice and travel, assisting the coaching staff with scouting reports and conducting individual player workouts.
Shiffert also works as a coach and administrator for the prestigious Hoop Group, and is a regular participant at the Elite and Top 100 camps throughout the east coast. The Nazareth, Pennsylvania native graduated from ESU in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in communications with a concentration in speech.
Shiffert is currently working towards his master’s degree in criminal justice.
