Teven Williams

Former Slippery Rock University football standout Teven Williams will begin his second season as an assistant for head coach Shawn Lutz in 2017.

Williams, who assisted with the linebackers a season ago, will help coach the defensive line in 2017.

In his first season as a collegiate coach, Williams assisted on a defense that ranked sixth in the nation in rushing yards allowed per game as well as fifth in the PSAC in sacks and seventh in points allowed.

Williams helped guide a linebacker group that featured All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference honorees Bob Vernick and Anthony Zappone.

Williams entered the collegiate coaching ranks after finishing his playing career in stellar fashion by leading The Rock defense in tackles in 2015, a season in which Slippery Rock went 12-2 and advanced to the third round of the NCAA playoffs.

Williams earned a pair of All-America honors following his senior year in 2015 after he recorded 97 tackles, including 19 tackles for a loss and five sacks. He was an integral part of a Rock defense that led the nation in takeaways and was second in the country against the run. Williams recorded two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, and also recovered two fumbles.

Prior to his one-year at Slippery Rock, Williams led Youngstown State in tackles in each of his first three seasons of collegiate eligibility before transferring for his senior year.
