Former Slippery Rock University starting quarterback Jared Buck will return for a second consecutive season as an assistant on head coach Shawn Lutz’s staff in 2020. Buck will once again serve as The Rock’s wide receivers coach.

The 2020 season will mark Buck’s fourth year overall as an assistant coach at Slippery Rock, he previously served as a graduate assistant in charge of tight ends running backs for two seasons following his playing career.

A year ago, Buck helped coach a Rock team that went 13-1, won Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, PSAC West and Super Region I championships while appearing in the national semifinals and finishing the year ranked sixth in the nation by the American Football Coaches Association.

Buck’s position group in 2019 had arguably the top season of any wide receiver corps in Slippery Rock history. All-American’s Henry Litwin and Jermaine Wynn Jr. combined to record 198 catches for 2,848 yards and 36 touchdowns to lead the way while the group as a whole tallied 300 catches for 4,339 yards and 49 touchdowns.

As a player, Buck was a member of the Slippery Rock football team for four seasons (2011-14). For his career, he appeared in 19 games, throwing for 2,128 yards and 20 touchdowns while completing 63 percent of his passes. Buck also displayed versatility with 453 career rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground during his collegiate career.

As a senior in 2014, Buck led The Rock to a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship and a berth into the NCAA Division II playoffs. He was named the MVP of the PSAC Championship game after throwing for 256 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 59 yards and another score in a win over fifth-ranked, and previously unbeaten, Bloomsburg University.

Buck ranks 14th in Rock history in passing touchdowns, 16th in passing yards, 16th in completions (170) and 18th in total passing attempts (270).
