Former Ohio State University standout Corey Brown enters his second season on the Slippery Rock University football team’s coaching staff as a graduate assistant in charge of defensive backs.

"Adding a guy with the on-field experience that Corey Brown brings to the team is a big bonus for our program," said Lutz. "He played at the highest level of college football, for one of the best programs in the country under one of the best coaching staffs in the country. We're really looking forward to him bringing that experience to our secondary."

In his first season at The Rock, Brown coached a defensive back unit that included seven underclassmen. He played a pivotal role in helping Tavarus Sample successfully transition from wide receiver to safety. In his first collegiate season as a defender, Sample led The Rock in tackles with 86 while also recording one interception and nine pass break-ups. Brown also mentored Khadir Roberts, who started 11 games at cornerback as a true freshman.

Brown, who was affectionately known as "Pitt" by his teammates at OSU, started nine games at safety for Urban Meyer's Buckeyes during his senior year in 2013, finishing sixth on the team in tackles with 55.

All told, Brown appeared in 47 games and recorded 79 tackles during his five-year career with Ohio State after coming out of high school as a five-star recruit from Gateway High School in Monroeville, Pennsylvania.
