Clyde Conti

Veteran coach Clyde Conti enters his fifth year on the Slippery Rock staff in 2018.
 
After serving as a quality control coach for the offense and defense in 2015 and 2016, Conti took on the title of academic coordinator for the 2017 season, a role he will once again fill in 2018.
 
This fall will mark Conti’s 46th year of coaching football. His head coaching career included 22 seasons at Clarion-Limestone High School, seven years at Slippery Rock High School and three years at Butler High School. In his 32 years as a high school head coach, his teams won 188 games.
 
Conti also served two years as an assistant coach at Freeport High School and seven years as an assistant at Clarion University at the collegiate level.
 
He was named a Coach of the Year seven times between 1974 and 2012. Conti led Clarion-Limestone to district titles in 1990 and 1993 and also coached Slippery Rock to back-to-back titles in 2002 and 2003.
 
Conti was inducted into the Pennsylvania Scholastic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2004, the AK Valley Hall of Fame in 2005 and the Armstrong County Hall of Fame in 2006.
 
He graduated from Clarion in 1973, after a playing his career under legendary coach Al Jacks.
 
Conti is a 1969 graduate of Freeport High School, where he was a two-time All-WPIAL selection as a running back. He led Freeport to back-to-back WPIAL Championship game appearances in 1967 and 1968.
 
Conti worked in education for 38 years before retiring. He and his wife, Ursula, are the parents of three children: Crystal, Chad and Chase.
