Bryan Anthony Murray will begin his third season as defensive line coach for the Slippery Rock University football team in 2021.

In his first season at The Rock, Murray guided a defensive line that accounted for 51 tackles for loss and 25.5 sacks for a team that went 13-1, won Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, PSAC West and Super Region I championships while appearing in the national semifinals and finishing the year ranked sixth in the nation by the American Football Coaches Association.

Slippery Rock led the PSAC in both sacks and tackles for loss thanks in no small part to SRU’s defensive line. Under Murray, Chad Kuhn and Jeff Marx both earned first team All-PSAC West accolades with Kuhn going on to be named an All-American.

Murray came to The Rock after spending the previous two years as a defensive graduate assistant at the University of Cincinnati, where he worked under head coach Luke Fickell while pursuing his second master’s degree.

At Cincinnati, Murray was heavily involved with weekly scouting reports and prospective player evaluations. He also had a significant role with academic coordination for the football program and led the scout team meetings for the defense and special teams units.

Murray worked alongside former SRU assistant coach Al Washington in 2017 and Steve Stripling in 2018 to coach the defensive line, where he oversaw four players that earned All-Conference honors.

As a player, Murray was a three-year letterman and served as team captain at Boston College during his senior season in 2012.

Murray has three degrees from Boston College. He received dual bachelor’s degrees in human development and economics with a minor in sociology in 2011 and earned a master’s degree from Boston College in applied developmental educational psychology in 2013.
