Mike Nuzzo is entering his fifth season as SRU’s pitching coach. Nuzzo originally joined head coach Jeff Messer’s staff prior to the 2022 season.
In addition to his duties as The Rock's pitching coach, Nuzzo also assists with all other facets of the program.
CAREER AT A GLANCE
• Nuzzo has established Slippery Rock’s pitching staff as one of the top units in the country in each of the last two seasons. The Rock closed 2025 ranked third in the nation in walks allowed per nine innings (2.86), fourth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.84), seventh in WHIP (1.30), 10th in ERA (3.95) and 25th in hits allowed per nine innings (8.87).
• During his four-year tenure, Slippery Rock has gone 115-82 (.584) with three postseason appearances.
• Nuzzo has mentored eight Rock pitchers who have earned All-PSAC West honors including 2024 PSAC West Pitcher of the Year Gage Gillott, 2022 PSAC West Freshman of the Year Ethan Edkins and 2025 D2Baseball All-American Mark Wilbur.

ATHLETIC CAREER
• Prior to embarking on his collegiate coaching career, Nuzzo pitched at La Roche College.
• Nuzzo went 3-1 with two saves and a 2.70 ERA over 30 innings pitched in a three-year career that spanned from 2018 to 2021.
• As a senior, Nuzzo earned first team All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference accolades as a relief pitcher after going 3-0 with one save all the while compiling a scant 1.69 ERA over 21.1 innings of work while helping La Roche to a 20-3 record and a runner-up finish in the AMCC Tournament.
