Ground breaking on the Jerry Bejbl Weight Training Center took place in 1997 after former Rock football standout Dr. Jerry Bejbl made a generous $200,000 donation to the university to help fund the building and equipment in the facility.

The weight room, which is located at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium, is available for use only by the Slippery Rock University varsity athletes, with supervision from coaches.

In 2012 the facility saw another monumental upgrade with the inclusion of all new branded weight racks and dumbells.

The attractive facilities features green weight racks adorned with Slippery Rock athletic logos, padded floor mats that include the athletic logos and motivational slogans and framed pieces of Slippery Rock history, including Jerry Bejbl's retired football jersey.

The Rock football team has direct access to the facility through its locker room underneath the stadium.

About Jerry Bejbl: Dr. Jerry Bejbl (BAY-bull) was the first player in Slippery Rock University football history to have his jersey retired.

A 1963 graduate of Slippery Rock State College and 1986 inductee into the SRU Athletic Hall of Fame, he was a standout football and baseball player during his undergraduate days at The Rock.

In football, he earned honorable mention All-America honors as a senior. He was also named the Most Valuable Player in Slippery Rock’s 13-6 win over East Stroudsburg in the 1962 state championship game.

Dr. Bejbl was a fullback and kicker and scored 91 points to lead The Rock to a 9-1 record in his final season. That point total stood as the school record for more than 30 years.

Dr. Bejbl is the retired president and owner of The Armoloy Corporation, which developed and refined a chronium electroplating process for metals, molds and dies, and has continued to set the torrid pace for others to try and follow well after his graduation.

Bejbl also endowed a $50,000 scholarship in 1988 known as the Jerry Bejbl Football Scholarship.
