Kutztown in first place after day one of PSAC Championships

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –
After one day of competition, Kutztown leads the 2011 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Golden Bears have 28 points through two scored events.

Millersville is in second place with 16 points and Lock Haven is in third place with 14 points. Slippery Rock is in fourth place at 12 points while East Stroudsburg rounds out the top five with five points.

Thursday's first day of competition included the first four events of the heptathlon, the finals of the women's hammer throw and the finals of the 10,000-meter run.

Kutztown's Ashley Pinter claimed the first individual title of the meet with a win in the hammer throw. She posted a mark of 52.43 meters to win her second consecutive PSAC title in the hammer throw. Vanita Moses of Lock Haven finished second, followed by Alaina Leonard of Lock Haven in third.

After a two hour lightning delay, the 10,000-meter run was finally started with Elicia Anderson of Millersville winning the race in a time of 36:24.20. Crystal Burnick of Slippery Rock placed second at 36:34.83 and Kutztown’s Becca Brandt placed third with a time of 36:39.64.

Through four events in the heptathlon West Chester's Melinda Wentz is out in front with 2,961 points. Slippery Rock holds the next two spots with Kim Stitt in second (2,893) and Kelly Bruder in third (2,809).

Day two of the 2011 PSAC Outdoor Championships will begin 10 a.m. Friday. The high jump, pole vault, shot put, long jump and 5,000-meter run champions will be decided while prelims of seven other running events will also be conducted.
