SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Lock Haven University leads the 2011 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships after one day of competition. The Soaring Eagles totaled 20 points through two completed events.
Shippensburg is in second place with 16 points and California (Pa.) is in third place with 12 points. Slippery Rock (10 points) and Edinboro (six points) round out the top-five.
Thursday's first day of competition included the first five events of the men's decathlon and the finals in the men's hammer throw and 10,000-meter run.
Slippery Rock thrower Chris Warning earned 10 points for SRU with his win in the hammer throw. Warning’s championship throw went for 57.94 meters. Throwers from Lock Haven took second and third place as Mark Manno’s throw of 56.62 meters edged out teammate Chad Yurchick’s mark of 54.84 meters.
Matt Kroetch won the 10,000-meter run for California after running a time of 30:39.15. He was joined in the top-three by Shippensburg’s Ethan Rissell (31:01.12) and Lock Haven’s Tim Getz (31:01.99).
After the first five events in the decathlon, Lock Haven's Chris Amman leads the way with 3,578 points. Brady Wert of Slippery Rock is second with 3,518, followed by Dan Johnson of ESU with 3,322.
Day two of the 2011 PSAC Outdoor Championships will begin 10 a.m. Friday. The high jump, pole vault, shot put, long jump and 5,000-meter run champions will be decided while prelims of seven other running events will also be conducted.
