The Rock volleyball team is kicking off its spring semester hitting the weight room hard! The team finished its 2010 season this fall with an 8-21 record. Their record this past season is their motivating force to work hard this offseason to ensure a successful upcoming fall 2011season.

The team is currently lifting and doing plyometric workouts four days a week while doing court agility and conditioning twice a week bright and early at 6 a.m. in Morrow Field House.

These student-athletes exemplify the saying “big things come in small packages” with some of these young women benching 100+lbs and squatting over 300lbs! In addition, they are also getting a taste of some on court time in small groups by position, receiving one on one instruction with the coaching staff.

After they return from their spring break vacations, individual practices will be replaced by team practices three times a week. This will be The Rock’s first time playing together without the help of the graduating seniors Anna Bixler and Kim Wilson (starting setters last season), Keira Peoples (middle hitter) and Alex Heller (right side hitter).

Freshman setter, Alexandra Fleagle, will be heading The Rock’s offense as the sole setter on the team this spring season. The team will be traveling to three tournaments this spring at IUP, California (Pa.), and Wheeling Jesuit where each athlete will try to secure her position for the upcoming fall season.

Keep checking our blog for updates on how our training is progressing and how we do in our spring tournaments!
