LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University quarterback DaOne Owens was named the Western Division Offensive Athlete of the Week when the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its weekly football awards Monday.

Owens, a junior from Massillon, Ohio, grabs his first PSAC Athlete of the Week award this season for his performance in leading The Rock to a 41-26 win at California (Pa.) Saturday in the PSAC West opener.

After starting out just 1-for-6 with two interceptions while SRU dropped into a 13-0 deficit early on, Owens flipped the script and guided The Rock back to a comfortable win. He scored on touchdown runs of 45 and 53 yards and finished the game with 116 rushing yards and two scores, becoming the first SRU QB to run for 100+ yards in a game since Roland Rivers III against Cal in 2019.

Owens also completed 13 of his last 19 pass attempts and finished with 245 passing yards and two touchdowns to account for 361 total yards and four touchdowns while leading SRU to its first regular season win over Cal (Pa.) since 2023.

Slippery Rock, which climbed to No. 8 in this week's national poll, is out to a 4-0 start that includes three straight road wins over the last three weeks. The Rock will return home for the next two weeks and welcome Gannon this Saturday night and Seton Hill next Saturday.

SRU has earned four PSAC Offensive Athlete of the Week awards this year with one offensive player being recognized after each game of the season. Owens joins running back JayJay Jordan (2x winner) and tight end Vincent Berardi as weekly honorees. The Rock defense has also earned a pair of weekly awards with ends Brett Kwoka and Elijah Halley being honored earlier this fall.
