PSAC WEST STANDINGS CHECK
This weekend marks the fourth week of conference play of the year for the PSAC West. With 16 divisional games remaining in the regular season, Slippery Rock enters the weekend in sole possession of first place in the PSAC West standings.
Â
• At the top of the division, only Slippery Rock and Seton Hill have suffered just two losses each, separating themselves from the final spot that makes the PSAC Tournament. The Rock currently sit 10-2 with the Griffins following closely behind with a 8-2 record.Â
Â
• Behind SRU and SHU, IUP and Gannon hold third and fourth with 8-4 and 6-6 records, respectively. California (Pa.) is occupying the fifth and final spot that makes the PSAC Tournament with a 5-7 record in the PSAC West.Â
Â
• Pitt-Johnston (4-8), Edinboro (3-7) and Clarion (2-10) are all within striking distance of the Vulcans as each team is within at least three games.
Â
• In a shift in format from past years, the top five teams in the divisional standings from both the PSAC West and PSAC East at the end of the regular season qualify for this year's PSAC Tournament that will be held in Binghamton, New York.
Â
• Slippery Rock has qualified for the PSAC Tournament in the last three seasons.
BAKER AND CAVENAUGH TAKE HOME PSAC WEST WEEKLY AWARDS
Rachel Baker andÂ
Maddie Cavenaugh swept the PSAC West weekly awards for the second time this season.
Baker and Cavenaugh became the first Rock duo to sweep the PSAC weekly awards twice in the same season. Cavenaugh is up to four PSAC West Athlete of the Week awards in 2026, the most in a single season by a Rock player, while Baker's three PSAC West Picher of the Week honors is the highest amount in a single season in program history.
In the circle, Baker pitched 15 innings and surrendered six runs (four earned) for a 1.87 ERA on nine hits and five walks with 17 strikeouts.
In a 6-3 win over Pitt-Johnstown, Baker threw seven innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts. This was Baker's second 10+ strikeout game of the season. In a 5-3 win over Indiana (Pa,) in eight innings, Baker threw a complete game, surrendering three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks with seven strikeouts.Â
At the plate, Cavenaugh hit .647 (11-for-17) with four runs, six RBIs, two home runs, one double and one stolen base. Cavenaugh had three or more hits in three of the four games this week with three hits in game two against Pitt-Johnstown and game one against Indiana, while recording four hits in game two versus the Crimson Hawks.Â
CLUTCH HOME RUNS
Slippery Rock swept the Crimson Hawks thanks to multiple home runs in the clutch. While down to its final out and trailing IUP 3-0 in game one, Cavenaugh launched a three-run home run to send the game to extra innings. Shall followed Cavenaugh's home run with a two-run shot of her own in the eighth inning to give The Rock a 5-3 walk-off victory.
In game two against Indiana, Cavenaugh hit her second clutch home run of the day. Slippery Rock's centerfielder hit a walk-off two run home run with two outs in the 11
th inning, giving SRU the 4-3 win.
RACKING UP STRIKEOUTS
Baker's 80 strikeouts on the season paces The Rock and slots her sixth in all the PSACÂ in punchouts. In her last two outings, Baker struck out 17 batters en route to earning two wins win in 15 innings of work.
