POSTSEASON SPOT SECURE (BUT STILL MUCH TO PLAY FOR)
Thanks to its four-game sweep of Clarion last week - combined with other results around the conference - the PSAC office determined Saturday night that Slippery Rock had mathematically clinched berths into the upcoming PSAC Tournament.

While Slippery Rock is assured of making the conference tournament no matter what happens this week, all-important seeding is still to be determined.

• The top five teams in the divisional standings from both the PSAC West and PSAC East at the end of the regular season qualify for this year's single-elimination PSAC Tournament that will be held at Critchfield Park (May 6-9).

• The winner of the conference tournament earns an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

• All five spots from the Western Division have been clinched, but just one seed is official. Thanks to its 22-2 league record, Seton Hill has already locked down the top spot out of the Western Division.

• Behind the Griffins are four teams separated by just one game in IUP (14-10), Gannon (14-10), Slippery Rock (13-11) and California (13-11). Entering the weekend, The Rock, Crimson Hawks, Golden Knights and Vulcans could all finish anywhere between 2-5 in the final regular season standings.

• Only two teams from the Eastern Division – West Chester and East Stroudsburg - have punched their tickets to the PSAC Tournament as Millersville (15-9), Shippensburg (14-10), Shepherd (12-12) and Bloomsburg (11-13) are fighting for the final three berths.

• While winning a conference tournament will require surviving a gauntlet no matter your seed, earning one of the top three seeds in each division would be very beneficial to every team due to the fourth and fifth teams in both divisions having to play an additional game in the conference tournament.

ANOTHER YEAR, ANOTHER WINNING SEASON
No matter how the rest of the year plays out, Slippery Rock is already assured of having locked down its 36th winning season in the last 41 years under head coach Jeff Messer.

HOME IS WHERE THE WINS ARE
Since Critchfield Park's stadium renovation in 2020, Slippery Rock has recorded a 99-54 (.647) overall regular season home record. SRU is 16-8 at Critchfield Park in 2026.

GET A LEAD, KEEP A LEAD
Slippery Rock is 21-2 when holding a lead after five innings.

KITKO GOING FOR BATTING TITLE
Entering the final week of the regular season The Rock's Michael Kitko leads the PSAC West in batting average at .426, two points ahead of Seton Hill's Brady McGuire (.424). If Kitko were to win the PSAC West batting title he would be the first Rock athlete to accomplish the feat since Jon Kozarian (.421) in 2021.

Other Rock athletes currently ranking in the top three in statistical categories across the PSAC West include Gage Gillott and Stone Powell (tied for first place in doubles / 16) and as Joey Vanzin (second in saves / five).

GOOD EYE
Gage Gillott has drawn 31 walks in 42 games played this season. He already ranks 17th in Slippery Rock single-season history for walks and is on pace finish with 35 which would be tied with Derek Carr (2012) and Kevin Keryan (1990) for fifth at The Rock.

STREAKING
Several Rock athletes enter the final week of the regular season in possession of impressive hit and/or on-base streaks.

• Michael Kitko is in the midst of an 11-game hitting streak, which is the top active streak and is tied with Stone Powell for the second longest hitting streak for The Rock this year. Clay Wiesen had a 13-game hitting streak earlier in the year that is currently the best in 2026.

• Gage Gillott (12), Max Bernadowski (12), Kitko (11) and Powell (10) are all enjoying active on-base streaks of at least 10 games. Jake Robinson and Darryn Callahan share the season-long top reached base streak of 16 straight games earlier in the year.

THE ROCK ROTATION
Slippery Rock's standard weekend rotation featuring Gage Gillott, Cole Grady, Parker Hogge and Zachary Hare have been a point of strength for The Rock over the last three weeks.

• Grady has firmly established himself as one of the top pitchers in the entire PSAC. He's earned wins in four of his last five starts to bring a 4-0 record, 2.66 ERA and .209 opponent batting average into the California series. Grady has struck out 48 batters in his 40.2 innings pitched this year.

• Gillott has not allowed a run over his last two starts (10.1 innings), earning a pair of wins to push his record to 3-2 on the year with a 4.55 ERA, 25 strikeouts and a .279 opponent batting average over 27.2 innings.

• Only Grady has logged more innings pitched for The Rock this season than Hogge, who is 3-2 with 27 strikeouts and nine walks in 36.2 innings.

• Hare took a no-hitter into the fourth inning of his Clarion start, finishing with one hit and one run allowed while striking out eight Golden Eagles. The promising rookie has made nine starts for Slippery Rock in 2026, going 3-1 with a 3.51 ERA, .216 opponent batting average and 49 strikeouts through 33.1 innings.

• Only four other Rock pitchers have struck out more batters as rookies than Hare: Joby Lapkowicz (66 / 2010), Lou Trivino (57 / 2011) and Gary Chesnoski (56 / 1982).

• Kyle Warsnman has started three of The Rock's four midweek games this season. In eight total appearances, the sophomore is 3-0 with a 4.02 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 15.2 innings.

THE ROCK BULLPEN
Slippery Rock's core relief trio of Joey Vanzin, Nolan Comerford and Michael Kitko have all been relied upon heavily coming out of SRU's bullpen in 2026.

• Vanzin has made a team-high 17 appearances in 2026. In addition to leading The Rock in appearances, only three other pitchers on the entire staff have thrown more innings than Vanzin's 32.1. He is 2-2 with five saves, a 3.34 ERA and .254 opponent batting average. Vanzin has 39 strikeouts to just eight walks.

• Over the last seven years, only one other Rock pitcher has made more appearances in a single-season than Vanzin: Mark Wilbur pitched in 18 games in 2025. Vanzin now ranks second in the PSAC West in saves behind only Zach Herb (6). His nine career saves are tied for the fifth most in SRU program history.

• Nolan Comerford has been outstanding for the majority of his rookie year. Pitching 25.2 innings across 16 appearances, Comerford has made three saves while tallying 29 strikeouts, just nine walks and a 2.81 ERA to go with a scant .187 opponent batting average.

• Comerford garnered his first collegiate victory after throwing 2.2 shutout innings in SRU's 5-2 victory over Clarion.

• Not just one of The Rock's top hitters, Kitko has also gone 2-2 with 27 strikeouts and 13 walks in 25.2 innings of work. Just three of the nine runners he has inherited this season have scored.

• Warnsman and Tyler Slone (3-0, 3.07 ERA, 14.2 IP, .271 OBA) have also pitched in multiple PSAC West games.

THE ROCK LINEUP
C: A starter in 39 games this season – 37 of which have come behind the plate – Nemeth has greatly increased his overall offensive production from a season ago, hitting .351 with a .417 on-base percentage, 22 runs, 11 doubles, one home run and 33 RBIs. Landon Hamer (2 HR, 5 RBIs) and Mason Raup (.375, 4 RBIs) have split catching duties during midweek games.

1B: Stone Powell is The Rock's sole leader in home runs (7) in addition to being tied for the team – and PSAC – lead in doubles (16) while slashing .351/.418/.604 with 35 runs and 42 RBIs. He has started all 42 games for SRU at first base.

2B: In what's became a weekly occurrence, Clay Wiesen made several great plays in field to help The Rock preserve their sweep of Clarion last week. Wiesen also posted five hits in the series and is now batting .330 on the year with 26 runs, two home runs and 10 RBIs.

3B: 27 of Max Bernadowski's 33 starts in 2026 have come at third base. Bernadowski went 4-for-5 in SRU's home portion of the Clarion series, which helped raise his batting average to .304 alongside 31 runs, two home runs, 15 RBIs and a.403 on-base percentage.

SS: 24 of Jake Robinson's 31 RBIs this season have come against PSAC West opponents. Robinson has started all 36 games he's played in en route to hitting .367 with 34 runs, one home run, 31 RBIs, four stolen bases and a .449 on-base percentage. Aari Fox serves as Robinson's primary backup.

LF: Depending on the lineup configuration, starting left field duties typically fall to one of SRU's best hitters in either Gage Gillott (28) or Michael Kitko (8).

• Gillott, The Rock's leadoff hitter, continues to perform at such a level on the mound, at the plate and in the field that has made him one of the most versatile and valuable athletes in the PSAC. Over 42 starts, Gillott holds a slash line of .345/.473/.497 with 43 runs, two home runs, 27 RBIs, 16 doubles and eight stolen bases.

• As mentioned throughout this preview, Kitko has been one of most productive hitters in the PSAC West both on a per game and overall basis in 2026. His all-conference caliber stat line includes a .426 batting average, .468 slugging percentage, .632 slugging percentage, 25 runs, six home runs and 44 RBIs.

• Kitko, who is Slippery Rock's primary designated hitter (27 starts) when not splitting time in left field or the occasional start in right field (3), ranks fifth in the nation with just one strikeout every 22.7 at-bats in NCAA Division II's "toughest to strikeout out" stat.

CF: Starting duties in centerfield has been shifted around between Morgen Billotte (23), Luke Anderton (12) and Gillott (7).

• Billotte has reached base in eight straight games and is now batting .286 with 24 runs, one home run, 13 RBIs and a .383 on-base percentage. Anderton has also been productive on the year with 13 runs and nine RBIs in addition to hitting .310 with a .408 on-base percentage.

RF: A starter in 40 games, 37 of which in right field, Darryn Callahan has had the best season of his collegiate career. In addition to hitting .294 with a .396 on-base percentage and .504 slugging percentage, Callahan has scored 23 runs with five home runs and 32 RBIs. He shifted the tide of SRU's 5-2 victory over Clarion when he launched a three-run pinch hit homer in the sixth inning.
