No. 7 Rock wraps 17-0 season with 19-3 win at Lock Haven

No. 7 Slippery Rock completed a perfect regular season and improved to 17-0 with a dominant 19-3 win on the road at Lock Haven Saturday.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The seventh ranked Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team became the first modern era women's team at SRU to complete a perfect regular season after improving to 17-0 with a 19-3 win at Lock Haven Saturday to close the regular season.

The Rock posted a perfect 10-0 record in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division for the second straight year to win the division title and earn the No. 1 seed in the upcoming playoffs. Lock Haven closed the season with a 9-7 overall record and a 5-5 mark in the PSAC West to lock up the No. 4 seed in the division.

The 17-0 regular season is the first perfect regular season for any of the current varsity women's athletics teams at SRU. The lacrosse team joins The Rock football team as recent teams to go undefeated in the regular season after SRU football went 10-0 in both 2019 and 2023.

Slippery Rock scored the first five goals Saturday and was never really threatened in the game. The Rock dominated possession to the tune of a 19-4 advantage in draw controls and parlayed that into advantages of 44-12 in total shots, 35-8 in shots on goal and 25-21 in ground balls. SRU went 12-of-15 on clear attempts and limited Lock Haven to just 8-of-20 after causing 19 turnovers on the day.

Grace Rotter surpassed the 100-goal milestone at SRU before finishing her second full season with the program and led the attack with a season-high eight points on six goals and two assists. She also caused three turnovers.

Reagan Richeson added seven points with four goals and three assists to go along with two caused turnovers and two ground balls. She moved up to No. 3 all-time at SRU in career goals (148) and No. 4 in points (172). Isabella Buono and Abby Fink both scored two goals and handed out two assists, while Sydney Ulmer, Ella Koslowski and Shannon Von Kaenel all scored one goal and Maddie Blazey handed out one assist.

Von Kaenel was dominant in the draw circle all day and pulled down a career-high 17 draw controls, the fourth most in a single-game in program history.

Paige Jenkins led the defense with four caused turnovers and four ground balls and Aleigha Dubroc added two caused turnovers and one ground ball. Lily Ventresca tied her own single-season program record for goalie wins with her 16th victory this season after allowing three goals and recording five saves.

Gabby Gunnip paced Lock Haven with a pair of goals and goalie Gretchen King did her best to keep her team in the game with 16 saves.

Slippery Rock will now shift focus to the PSAC Tournament, which will run through The Rock. SRU hosts East Division No. 4 seed Shippensburg Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the quarterfinals. A win in that game would make SRU the hosts for both semifinal games Friday and the championship game Sunday.

Tickets for Tuesday's PSAC quarterfinal can be purchased HERE. All tickets must be purchased online. There will be no cash sales at the game. SRU students will be admitted free at the gate with their student ID.
