PSAC WEST STANDINGS CHECK
• The race to the PSAC Tournament is still wide open in the Western Division with just two weekends left in the regular season as only one team has clinched a spot in the PSAC Tournament, leaving four postseason bids in the division up for grabs.
Â
• The top five teams in the divisional standings from both the PSAC West and PSAC East at the end of the regular season qualify for this year's single-elimination PSAC Tournament that will be held at Critchfield Park (May 6-9). The winner of the conference tournament earns an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Â
• At 19-1 inside the PSAC West, Seton Hill has all but clinched a regular season divisional title in addition to being the lone Western Division team to have secured a conference tournament berth.
Â
• Gannon enters the week in second place in the PSAC West courtesy of its 13-7 league record, followed in the top four by California (12-8) and IUP (11-9).
Â
• Slippery Rock (9-11) sits in fifth place, two games behind IUP and a half game ahead of sixth-place Clarion (8-11). Rounding out the PSAC West standings in eighth and ninth place, respectively, is Pitt-Johnstown (5-15) and Lock Haven (2-17).
Â
• Entering the weekend there is just one previously postponed league game that needs to be made up: Clarion and Lock Haven are scheduled to play their March 23rd game that was suspended in the third game due to weather on April 28.
Â
• With just 4.5 games separating second place from sixth in the PSAC West standings there are still a myriad of ways that each team can play its way into – or out of – a spot in the PSAC Tournament. As far as Slippery Rock is concerned, there is a specific scenario that The Rock can clinch a postseason berth prior to next week's series against California without worrying about tiebreakers or results against the Vulcans.
Â
• If Slippery Rock were to sweep Clarion and the Golden Eagles would lose to Lock Haven in its April 28 make-up game then The Rock would have 13 league wins to Clarion's eight which would guarantee SRU of finishing no worse than fifth place in the PSAC West standings at the end of the regular season.
Â
• Slippery Rock has qualified for the PSAC Tournament in three of the last four years.

Slippery Rock scored six runs over the final three innings as part of a 9-6 comeback victory Tuesday at Ashland. The Rock won their 11th straight midweek game thanks in no small part to the duo of
Stone Powell (2-for-5, 1 HR, 4 RBI) and
Morgen Billotte (2-for-5, 2 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI), who combined to drive in six runs down the stretch.
Â

Â
• At 7.0 runs per game, Clarion ranks seventh in the PSAC in scoring. The Golden Eagles rank in the middle of the PSAC in most offensive categories aside from its 38 home runs and 1.00 home runs per game which rank fourth in the PSAC. Clarion holds a team slash line of .303/.417/.459.
Â
The Pitching Staffs
• The Rock's pitching staff has limited opponents to 4.9 runs per game on 8.1 hits and 3.2 walks surrendered a game while possessing a 5.05 staff ERA and .282 opponent batting average. SRU ranks 14th in Division II in strikeouts per nine innings (9.4), 15th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.36) and 38th in walks allowed per nine innings (3.97).
Â
• Golden Eagle pitchers hold a 6.03 team ERA with opponents hitting .294 helping to result in 6.9 runs per game allowed.
THE ROCK ROTATION
Slippery Rock's standard weekend rotation featuring
Gage Gillott,
Cole Grady,
Parker Hogge and
Zachary Hare had a strong series last week against Lock Haven. Collectively, the four starters combined to pitch 17.2 innings, allowing just three earned runs while posting 20 strikeouts to just eight walks.
Â
• Grady has been nothing short of great in his first season at Slippery Rock. The Glenville State transfer has gone 3-0 in 34 innings pitched over eight appearances. He heads into his Clarion start boasting a 2.91 ERA and .217 opponent batting average with 45 strikeouts and just 17 walks.
Â
• Grady, who has given up just four earned runs to go with 32 strikeouts and 13 hits allowed in his four PSAC West starts this season, ranks first among all pitchers in strictly PSAC West play in ERA, opponent batting average and strikeouts. Â
Â
• Gillott was dominant against Lock Haven, pitching five shutout innings with only three hits and a walk surrendered. He's now 2-2 with a 5.64 ERA and .283 opponent batting average in 22.1 innings pitched.
Â
• Hogge (3-2, 23 K / 6 BB, 32.1 IP) has pitched into at least the fifth inning in four of his six starts this season.
Â
• Arguably the top rookie pitcher in the PSAC West, Hare enters the weekend sporting a 3-1 record with a 3.60 ERA, .230 opponent batting average and 41 strikeouts through eight starts (30 innings). Among PSAC West freshmen (true or redshirt), Hare either ranks first outright or is tied for first in innings pitched, wins and strikeouts, while ranking third in opponent batting average (min. 20 IP) and fourth in ERA (min. 20 IP).
THE ROCK BULLPEN
Slippery Rock's core relief trio of
Joey Vanzin,
Nolan Comerford and
Michael Kitko have all been relied upon heavily coming out of SRU's bullpen in 2026.
Â
• Vanzin has made a team-high 16 appearances in 2026. In addition to leading The Rock in appearances, only two other pitchers on the entire staff have thrown more innings than Vanzin's 30.2. He is 2-2 with four saves, a 3.52 ERA and .252 opponent batting average. He has 37 strikeouts to just eight walks.
Â
• Over the last seven years, only one other Rock pitcher has made more appearances in a single-season than Vanzin:
Mark Wilbur pitched in 18 games in 2025.
Â
•
Nolan Comerford has been outstanding for the majority of his rookie year. Pitching 22.2 innings across 14 appearances, Comerford has made three saves while tallying 26 strikeouts, just nine walks and a 3.18 ERA to go with a scant .207 opponent batting average.
Â
• Not just one of The Rock's top hitters, Kitko has also gone 2-2 with 27 strikeouts and 13 walks in 25.2 innings of work. Just three of the nine runners he has inherited this season have scored.
Â
•
Kyle Warnsman (3-0, 4.02 ERA, 15.2 IP) and
Tyler Slone (2-0, 3.27 ERA, 11 IP, .238 OBA) have also pitched in multiple PSAC West games.
THE ROCK LINEUP
C: A starter in 35 games this season – 33 of which have come behind the plate – Nemeth carries a seven-game hitting streak into the weekend. In addition currently holding what would be career-bests in batting average (.342), on-base percentage (.416) and slugging percentage (.467), Nemeth has either already surpassed or is on pace to eclipse last year's offensive numbers in virtually every category as he has already compiled 20 runs, 41 hits, 28 RBIs and one home run. His 11 multi-RBI games is a team-high.
Â
1B: With his homer against Ashland,
Stone Powell moved into sole possession for first place in home runs at SRU this season with seven. One of just two players to start all 38 games this season, Powell has driven in 39 runs while scoring 33 more in addition to slashing .360/.429/.640. Nearly half of his 50 hits have gone for extra bases this year (24). He is tied with
Gage Gillott for the PSAC lead in doubles at 16. Â
Â
2B: A great all-around threat,
Clay Wiesen combines one of the best gloves in the Atlantic Region with a prowess at the plate that includes a .319 batting average, .393 on-base percentage, 24 runs, two home runs and nine RBIs.
Â
3B: 23 of
Max Bernadowski's 33 starts in 2026 have come at third base. With hits in seven of his last eight games played (9-for-28), Bernadowski has grown his batting average 14 points over the last two weeks up to .287 alongside 27 runs, two home runs, 13 RBIs and a .383 on-base percentage.
Â
SS: 24 of
Jake Robinson's 31 RBIs this season have come against PSAC West opponents. Only Seton Hill's Brady McGuire (29) has more RBI in conference games. Robinson, who is tied for third on the team in multi-hit games (12), has started all 35 games he's played in en route to hitting .368 with 34 runs, one home run, 31 RBIs, four stolen bases and a .451 on-base percentage.
Â
LF: Depending on the lineup configuration, starting left field duties typically fall to one of SRU's best hitters in either
Gage Gillott (25) or
Michael Kitko (7).
Â
• The Rock's leadoff hitter, Gillott has built on what was already been two great years at Slippery Rock with an even better season at the plate in 2026. A .364 hitter with a .488 on-base percentage, Gillott has already set personal-bests in runs (41), doubles (16) and RBIs (27). Additionally, he's also already up to 48 hits, two home runs and eight stolen bases which puts him on pace to set career-bests in those categories as well.
Â
• The reigning PSAC West Athlete of the Week, Kitko has also made his last season at Slippery Rock his best. One of the hottest hitters in the PSAC currently, Kitko enters the Clarion series hitting .419 with 24 runs, six home runs, 42 RBIs, a .464 on-base percentage, a .645 slugging percentage and six doubles.
Â
• Kitko, who is Slippery Rock's primary designated hitter (26 starts) when not splitting time in left field, has 18 hits, two home runs and 12 RBIs over his last seven games played. Kitko ranks 36th in the nation in batting average and with just one strikeout every 20.7 at-bats, is eighth in NCAA Division II's "toughest to strikeout out" stat.
Â
CF: Starting duties in centerfield has been shifted around between
Morgen Billotte (20),
Luke Anderton (11) and Gillott (7).
Â
• Fresh off his big outing against Ashland and having tallied five hits and eight runs over his previous five appearances, Billotte is now batting .270 with 21 runs, one home run, 13 RBIs and a .361 on-base percentage. Anderton has also been productive on the year with 12 runs and nine RBIs in addition to hitting .325 with a .413 on-base percentage.
Â
RF: A starter in 36 games, 35 of which in right field,
Darryn Callahan has had the best season of his collegiate career. In addition to hitting .304 with a .409 on-base percentage and .500 slugging percentage, Callahan has scored 22 runs with four home runs and 29 RBIs.
