LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock exploded for 29 total runs to kickoff PSAC West play with a sweep versus Clarion, 11-3 in five innings and 18-9 in six innings March 19 at Kasnevich Field.
Slippery Rock was led by a plethora of players as The Rock had six players with three or more RBIs in the doubleheader, as well as four different players with home runs.
Maddie Cavenaugh had herself a day with a 6-for-8 showing with seven RBIs, five runs, three stolen bases, two home runs and one walk.
Alyssa Massucci went 3-for-7 with three runs, four RBIs and one home run.
Addie Deal (4-for-6),
Alyssa Sheely (4-for-8),
Jordyn Pelles (4-for-6),
Aubrey Mansfield (3-for-6),
Grace Smith (3-for-4) and
Sarah Brown (2-for-6) all had hits in each game of the doubleheader.
MANSFIELD TAKES DOUBLES CROWN
Mansfield cemented herself as the all-time leader in Slippery Rock history in doubles with her 41
st career double in SRU's 18-9 win over Clarion March 19. Mansfield passed
Alexsa Hurd (2022-25), whom she played with for three seasons, for the top spot on the leaderboard.
CAVENAUGH NAMED PSAC WEST ATHLETE OF THE WEEK … AGAIN
Cavenaugh was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week for the third time in four weeks, the conference office announced Monday.
Cavenaugh becomes the second player in Slippery Rock history to win a PSAC weekly award three times in four weeks. The only other Rock player to accomplish this was Shaylee Ianno during the 2011 season (March 15 – March 28). Cavenaugh's third PSAC weekly award ranks her fourth all-time in Slippery Rock history.
Cavenaugh finished the week, a doubleheader week over Clarion, batting .750 (6-for-8) with five runs, seven RBIs, three stolen bases and one walk. Six of Cavenaugh seven RBIs came on two separate three-run home runs. Cavenaugh ended the week with a 1.625 slugging percentage and a .778 on-base percentage.
USING THE LONG BALL
Slippery Rock used the home run to its advantage in its doubleheader sweep of Clarion. In the two games, SRU hit five home runs, all of which were multi-run big flys. Cavenaugh led the way with two home runs, while Sheely, Massucci and Pelles all hit one home run versus the Golden Eagles.
USING THE STRIKEOUT
Rachel Baker's (5-2, 2.70 ERA) 47 strikeouts on the season paces The Rock and slots her eighth in all the PSAC in punchouts. In her last outing, Baker struck out four Clarion batters en route to earning the win in five innings of work.
PSAC STRIKEOUT LEADERS (4-8)
4. Dani Heyward (Shippensburg – 63)
5. Sarah Yamrick (Bloomsburg – 54)
6. Kendall Young (IUP – 51)
7. Mia Smith (Pitt-Johnstown – 50)
8. Rachel Baker (Slippery Rock – 47)
SHUTTING THINGS DOWN
Paige Gresgott (2-2, 4.78 ERA) has been one of Slippery Rock's main two starters this season. The Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania native picked up the win in game two of Slippery Rock's doubleheader versus Clarion. On the season, Gresgott has given up 18 earned runs in 26.1 innings pitched, while striking out 24 batters and walking just 14 opponents.
DRIVING IN RUNS
Cavenaugh and Sheely
have driven in the most runs for The Rock so far in 2026. Cavenaugh's 1.44 RBIs per game put her 15
th in the nation and first in the PSAC, while her 23 RBIs places her atop in the conference.
While Sheely hasn't hit the minimums for game played to find herself in the any rankings, the senior has driven in 19 runs in just nine games played. Sheely drove in three runs during the doubleheader against the Golden Eagles.
DOUBLE MACHINE
Massucci has been one of Slippery Rock's most consistent hitters as she's second on The Rock in batting average with a .408 mark (20-for-49) with eight extra base hits. Four of Massucci's six extra base hits have been doubles, which paces SRU.
DUAL THREAT
Kayla Williams (1-3, 5.18 ERA) has seen action for The Rock at the plate and in the circle as the sophomore has pitched 54.2 innings, struck out 17 batters and earned a win in the circle. At the plate, Williams has seen 19 at-bats where she recorded five hits (.263 AVG), drove in one run and drew three walks.
TAKING THEIR BASE
In 14 games this season, SRU already has four players that have drawn five or more walks. Mansfield leads Slippery Rock with eight bases taken on balls.
Shaylyn Shall sits behind Mansfield with seven walks, while Cavenaugh and
Paige Parker have each drawn five.
SPEED KILLS
The Rock have taken advantage of opportunities on the base-paths this season as SRU already has three players with multiple stolen bases. Cavenaugh (7-7) and Mansfield (2-2) have been perfect in their attempts this season, while
Jessica Goldhardt (4-5) has also stolen multiple bases. As a team, Slippery Rock has stolen 16 bases on 20 attempts (.800).
MAKING AN IMPACT
Deal, a Saint Francis University (Pa.) transfer, continued to make an impact in the middle of Slippery Rock's lineup. In her first four games played in a Rock uniform, Deal has gone 7-for-14 with eight RBIs and six runs scored with one home run and two doubles.
