LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University softball freshman Maddie Cavenaugh was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Athlete of the Week for the third time in four weeks, the conference office announced Monday.

Cavenaugh becomes the second player in Slippery Rock history to win a PSAC weekly award three times in four weeks. The only other Rock player to accomplish this was Shaylee Ianno during the 2011 season (March 15 – March 28). Cavenaugh's third PSAC weekly award ranks her fourth all-time in Slippery Rock history.

Cavenaugh finished the week, a doubleheader week over Clarion, batting .750 (6-for-8) with five runs, seven RBIs, three stolen bases and one walk. Six of Cavenaugh seven RBIs came on two separate three-run home runs. Cavenaugh ended the week with a 1.625 slugging percentage and a .778 on-base percentage.

The freshman's highlight came in game two of SRU's doubleheader against Clarion March 20. In a 18-9 victory in six innings, Cavenaugh went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBIs, two stolen bases and one home run. The centerfielder ended the game just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.

On the season, Cavenaugh is hitting .448 (26-for-58) with 21 runs and 23 RBIs. The Bridgeville, Pennsylvania native leads the PSAC in triples with three and sits second in the conference with five home runs. Cavenaugh is slugging a team-leading .879 along with a .484 on-base percentage. On the base paths, the rookie is a perfect seven-for-seven in stolen base attempts.

Slippery Rock is scheduled for three PSAC West doubleheaders this week. The Rock begins the week by hosting Edinboro 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kasnevich Field, before hitting the road against Seton Hill University 2 p.m. Friday at the SHU Softball Complex and against California (Pa.) 1 p.m. Saturday at Lilley Field.
