ORLANDO, Fla. The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team had its four-match winning streak come to an end in a 5-2 loss to No. 31 Angelo State University Friday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
Â
Slippery Rock ends its Florida trip with a 4-1 overall record. The nationally ranked Rambelles improve to 14-0. For the fifth time this season, SRU earned the team doubles point, but Angelo rallied to the victory by taking five of the six singles flights.
Â
In a battle of nationally ranked duos,
Nicole Kempton and
Alissia Kivi – the No. 37 doubles team in Division II – beat No. 32 Benedetta Raggiotti and Margaux Rene 6-4 from the top flight. Kempton and Kivi are now 12-8 as a team this season. The win also marked the 99th collegiate victory for Kempton.
Â
While Vasilissa Kupriianova and Danaiya Amangazhiyeva would edge
Amaia Balaguer Brau and
Tina Slovak 6-3 in second flight competition, The Rock were able to clinch the doubles point thanks to yet another great showing out of
Nadia Rodewald and
Dari Sakhanova in the third flight.
Â
Rodewald and Sakhanova captured their 13th win in 14 matches as a team, giving SRU the first team point of the day in the process, by way of a 6-3 triumph over Jade Bestagno and Sasa Felixova.
However, Angelo State rebounded from the doubles losses to record five singles wins to maintain its perfect record in 2025-26.
Â
Slippery Rock's lone singles victory came out of the sixth flight where Rodewald earned a hard-fought 7-6 (7-2), 0-6, 1-0 (10-7) win against Anastasiia Melnikova. The decision moves Rodewald's season winning percentage above .500 to 7-6.
Â
Angelo State's five singles wins included victories by No. 13 Rene against Balaguer Brau in the first flight (7-6, 6-3). ASU other two nationally ranked singles athletes – No. 21 Kupriianova and No. 59 Amangazhiyeva also achieved respective victories over Kivi (6-2, 6-1) and Kempton (6-0, 6-1).
Â
The other two singles contests saw ASU wins from Raggiotti against Slovak (6-3, 6-3) and Sasa Felixova over Sakhanova (6-4, 6-1).
Â
