Rock opens PSAC West play vs. Clarion

The Slippery Rock softball team opens its PSAC West title defense with a doubleheader versus Clarion 1 p.m. Friday at Kasnevich Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University softball team opens its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division title defense with a doubleheader versus Clarion 1 p.m. Friday at Kasnevich Field.

MOTHER NATURE IS UNPREDICTABLE
With the unpredictable spring weather in western Pennsylvania, fans are reminded that any time / location / date changes will be posted on rockathletics.com and all of SRU athletics' official social media accounts as information becomes available. NO PETS AT KASNEVICH FIELD
Fans are reminded that there are NO PETS allowed at Kasnevich Field or in any SRU Athletics facilities. Please do not bring dogs or any other pets to the game. Unless they are a registered service animal, you will be asked to remove your pet from the facility.

SCHEDULE UPDATE
The scheduled start time for Friday's doubleheader against Clarion at Kasnevich Field has been moved up one hour to 1 p.m.

DOUBLEHEADER AT EDINBORO POSTPONED
Saturday's 2 p.m. doubleheader at Edinboro has been postponed due to anticipated weather in the area. There is currently no reschedule date at the moment for the tilt at Edinboro.

THE ROCK IN PSAC WEST OPENERS
Slippery Rock holds a 22-24 record all-time in PSAC West openers. In its last five conference openers, SRU has a 2-3 record. This is just the fifth time since the 2014 season that The Rock are kicking off conference play at home.

STRIKEOUTS GALORE
Rachel Baker's (4-2, 2.51 ERA) 43 strikeouts on the season paces The Rock and slots her fifth in all the PSAC in punchouts. Baker's 12-strikeout game against West Liberty University at the MEC/PSAC Crossover places the freshman tied for the fifth most strikeouts in a single game this season, just one punchout behind the conference-high.

SHUTTING THINGS DOWN

Paige Gresgott (1-2, 3.65 ERA) threw a complete-game shutout her last time out in the circle. In a 10-0 win over Concord, Gresgott surrendered just five hits and walked no batters, while striking out three Mountain Lions to achieve her first career complete game shutout. Also, Gresgott has given up earned runs in only one of her last five appearances, tied for the longest stretch of her career (2024).

DUAL THREAT
Kayla Williams (1-3, 5.39 ERA) has performed for The Rock at the plate and in the circle as the sophomore pitched 24.2 innings, struck out 16 batters, earned a win in the circle. At the plate, Williams has seen 19 at-bats where she recorded five hits (.263 AVG), drove in one run and drew three walks.

DRIVING IN RUNS
Maddie Cavenaugh and Alyssa Sheely have driven in the most runs for The Rock so far in 2026. Cavenaugh's 1.14 RBIs per game put her 47th in the nation and second in the PSAC, while her 16 RBIs places her fifth in the conference.

While Sheely hasn't hit the minimums for game played to find herself in the any rankings, the senior has driven in 16 runs in just nine games played. Four of Sheely's 16 RBIs came via a grand slam against No. 23 Shippensburg. 

DOUBLE MACHINE
Alyssa Massucci has been one of Slippery Rock's most consistent hitters as she leads The Rock in batting average with a .405 mark (17-for42) with six extra base hits. Four of Massucci's six extra base hits have been doubles, which paces SRU.

GOOD EYE
In 14 games this season, SRU already has four players that have drawn four or more walks. Mansfield leads Slippery Rock with seven bases taken on balls. Shaylyn Shall and Paige Parker each have seen ball four, five times this year, while Cavenaugh has drawn four walks.

TAKING THE EXTRA BASE
The Rock have taken advantage of opportunities on the base-paths this season as SRU already has three players with multiple stolen bases. Cavenaugh (4-4) and Mansfield (2-2) have been perfect in their attempts this season, while Jessica Goldhardt (3-4) has also stolen multiple bases. As a team, Slippery Rock has stolen 12 bases on 16 attempts (.750).

MAKING A STATEMENT
Saitn Francis (Pa.) University transfer Addie Deal made her SRU debut over the weekend. In her first two games in a Rock uniform, Deal went 3-for-8 with five RBIs and two runs scored. Deal also hit her first collegiate home run.
