LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock snapped a five-game losing streak via an impressive 85-67 home victory over Pitt-Johnstown. Clarion posted an 82-76 upset victory over Seton Hill in overtime at home.
Â
PSAC WEST STANDINGS UPDATE
The PSAC Tournament picture is starting to come into focus with six games remaining in the regular season.
Â
• The top six teams in both the Western Division and Eastern Division standings at the end of the regular season qualify for the PSAC Tournament. The first and second seeds in the standings earn first-round byes and a home game in the quarterfinal round while the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds are guaranteed home games in the first round.
Â
• The top three teams in the PSAC West table have clearly separated from the pack. Following its 28-point victory over California, Gannon sits alone in first place in the PSAC West standings with a 13-1 league record and has already punched its ticket to the postseason.
Â
• California still holds sole possession of second place in the PSAC West at 12-2 despite its sizable loss to Gannon. The Vulcans will claim one of the remaining five tournament spots up for grabs out of the Western Division with a victory Wednesday over Seton Hill.
Â
• IUP rounds out the top portion of the Western Division leaders comfortably in third place via its 11-3 league record. The Crimson Hawks can also clinch a PSAC Tournament bid Wednesday if it beats Pitt-Johnstown and The Rock defeats Clarion.
Â
• The remaining five teams in the PSAC West are separated by just two games. The contingent of The Rock, Seton Hill and Edinboro are all tied for fourth place with matching 7-7 conference records. If the season ended today the trio would occupy the final three tournament spots from the Western Division.
Â
• However, Clarion (6-8) and Pitt-Johnstown (5-9) are not far off their pace and still alive to play themselves back into PSAC Tournament contention.
Â
• Slippery Rock has qualified for the PSAC Tournament in eight of the last nine years. SRU has hosted opening-round tournament games in each of the last two years.
Â
• The six participants in the Eastern Division have all but been decided as West Chester, Millersville, Shepherd and East Stroudsburg have officially clinched postseason berths already with Shippensburg and Lock Haven both closing in on securing their spots as well.

UPJ RECAP (Box Score)
Slippery Rock recorded an impressive 85-67 victory over Pitt-Johnstown Feb. 7 at Morrow Field House to snap a five-game losing streak. The win came by way of an all-around team effort that included double-doubles by
Kerwin Prince and
Isaac James and 18 points from
Brady Mayo.
Â
In addition to ending its losing streak, the victory - combined with a win earlier in the year at UPJ - secured a season-sweep of the Mountain Cats for The Rock. Slippery Rock has now recorded six consecutive wins in the series.
Â
Pitt-Johnstown, which entered the game leading all of Division II in field goal percentage, finished the contest shooting well below its season average at 45.6 percent.
Â
The win came by way of a complete team effort that saw five of the eight Rock athletes that took the floor score in double figures. SRU led for nearly 30 minutes (29:19), including the entirety of the final 17 minutes of regulation.
Â
ANOTHER WINNING SEASON ON DECK
In what has become a near annual tradition for The Rock, SRU is on the cusp of locking up another winning season. A victory over Clarion would give Slippery Rock 15 victories and ensure the program of its 16th winning season since 2008-09 regardless of outcomes through the remainder of the year.
Â
SRU is yet to have a losing season under the guidance of head coach
Ian Grady, who is 113-84 since taking over the program in 2018-19.
Â
PRINCE EARNS WEEKLY HONOR
Following his dominant performance against Pitt-Johnstown,
Kerwin Prince was named the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Â
Prince earned his first weekly honor after leading The Rock to an 85-67 victory over Pitt-Johnstown. SRU's senior forward dominated inside with a 24-point, 12-rebound, five-steal performance. The double-double was Prince's fourth such performance of the year while his point and steal totals were both season-highs.
Â
A starter in seven of his 17 games played this year, Prince has recorded per game averages of 10.9 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals while shooting an efficient 62.3 percent from the field overall.
Â
Prince is the fourth different Rock athlete to earn weekly recognition from the conference this season:
Elijah Hill (Dec. 1) and
RJ Sledge (Jan. 12) both earned PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week accolades as well while
Dame Givner was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week on Dec. 22.
Â
MAYO MATCHES SEASON-HIGH
Brady Mayo continued his string of strong offensive performances in the Pitt-Johnstown victory with a season-high matching 18 points. The freshman guard also matched a season-best with three assists.
Â
Mayo, who has gone for 9.9 points and 1.2 steals per game on the year, has now reached double figures in four of The Rock's last five games at an average of 13.4 ppg over the stretch. His 218 points scored this year rank 16th on SRU's single-season freshman scoring ledger, 12 away from passing Connie Palumbo (1953-54) for 15th place.
Â
One of the PSAC's premiere free throw shooters, Mayo enters Wednesday shooting 85.1 percent at the foul line. If maintained through the end of the season, his current free throw shooting percentage would be the sixth highest in program history (minimum 60 attempts).
Â
Top Single-Season FT% at SRU (Min. 60 Attempts)
Â
DOUBLE-BARREL DOUBLE-DOUBLE
The UPJ game saw something accomplished by SRU that is somewhat of a rarity inside the program: two double-doubles in one game.
Kerwin Prince (24 points / 12 rebounds) and
Isaac James (14 points / 12 rebounds) accomplished the feat.
Â
Prince and James were the first set of Rock teammates to have double-doubles in the same game since Lashon Lindsey and
Maceo Austin did so in an overtime loss to Gannon on Jan. 17, 2024. There have been nine instances of multiple SRU athletes with double-doubles in the same game over the last eight years (197 games).

OFFENSIVE GLASS CLEANERS
As part of their double-double performances against Pitt-Johnstown,
Kerwin Prince (7) and Issac James (6) combined for 13 of The Rock's 17 offensive rebounds. On the year, Slippery Rock ranks fifth in the PSAC in offensive rebounding with 13.7 per game thanks in no small part to Prince and James who combine for 5.5 orpg.
Â
QUALITY BENCH MINUTES FROM LITTLEJOHN
Among the many contributors in the UPJ win for The Rock was reserve guard
Braylon Littlejohn, who turned in a 10-point, three-steal, two-rebound performance. Littlejohn reached double digits for the second time in his career on an efficient 5-of-7 shooting against the Mountain Cats.
Â
In nine games played this season, Littlejohn has averaged 5.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 55.2 percent from the floor in 19.1 minutes of playing time a night.
Â
GIVNER AMONG D2 BEST ROOKIE SCORING
Dame Givner begins the week still ranked among the best freshmen scorers in all of Division II.
Â
Givner, who has scored at least 20 points on six occasions this year including 24 at Clarion earlier in the season, enters Wednesday at 353 points on the year overall on an average of 16.0 points per game.
Â
Givner is sixth in all of Division II in total points scored by a freshman while slotting 11th in rookie points per game. Even when he's not scoring, Givner still finds ways to contribute like his five assists and two steals vs. UPJ. He averages 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

GET TO THE BREAK WITH A LEAD
Slippery Rock is a perfect 14-0 in 2025-26 when holding a lead or being tied at halftime, but 0-8 when trailing after 20 minutes.
Â
ANYONE CAN HURT YOU
Slippery Rock placed five athletes score in double figures vs. Pitt-Johnstown. SRU has had at least five double-digit scorers in a game nine times this year, six such games resulted in wins.
Â
EFFORT ON THE GLASS SHOWS UP IN THE WIN COLUMN
Slippery Rock is 13-2 when holding a positive rebounding margin. SRU is ranked fourth in the PSAC in both total rebounding (39.6) and rebounding margin (+4.5). Statistically speaking, Slippery Rock should have a healthy advantage on the glass Wednesday as Clarion ranks just 12th in the PSAC in rebounding and 14th in rebounding margin (-2.1). SRU was +20 (46-26) on the boards vs. Clarion earlier in the year.
Â
MISSES TURNED INTO MOMENTUM
Slippery Rock has logged double-digit second chance point totals in 18 of 22 games this season, including 21 in its win against Pitt-Johnstown. SRU is currently averaging 13.9 second chance points per game this season, well up from its 2024-25 average of 11.7.
Â
Four of SRU's six worst second chance point totals in a game this season have resulted in losses. SRU is 11-4 when earning 11 or more second chance points in a game, but just 3-4 when closing a contest with 10 or less. Slippery Rock had a season-best 27 second chance points in its win vs. Clarion earlier in the year.
Â
KEEP IT UNDER 80
Slippery Rock is a perfect 13-0 when holding opponents to under 80 points, but just 1-8 in high-scoring (80+) contests. Clarion has been held under 80 points in 10 games this season overall, including in three of its last four contests.
Â
While SRU holds a 7-6 record and is relatively comfortable when being kept under 80 points, Clarion is just 1-9 in such contests.
Â
IT'S A MAKE OR MISS GAME
Slippery Rock is 10-3 this season when shooting above 45 percent from the field, but 4-5 when shooting below 45 percent. In 14 wins SRU has shot 48.5 percent compared to 43.4 in eight losses. The Rock shot 51.7 percent from the field at Clarion earlier in the year.
Â
DEFENSE CREATES OFFENSE
Through 22 games, SRU is scoring 15.5 points off turnovers per game, which if maintained through the end of the season would represent the fourth highest such average inside the program over the last 12 years. Slippery Rock capitalized off 14 Clarion turnovers to the tune of 13 points in the first meeting of the season.
Â
Slippery Rock has averaged 17.4 points off turnovers per game in its 14 wins this year, up from 12.3 in its eight losses.

SINGLE-GAME FRESHMEN SCORING AT SRU
SRU's talented freshmen class have been scoring at a rate that's been virtually unheard of for rookies at The Rock over the last quarter century.
Â
This year's roster has accounted for eight of the 17 20-point games scored by a freshman at The Rock since the 2001-02 season (the furthest back game-by-game statistics are available)
Â
Dame Givner has reached the 20-point threshold six times, with
Elijah Hill and
RJ Sledge notching one each. The most points scored by a freshman at The Rock since 2001-02 was Givner's 39 at Lock Haven.
Â
Givner's 39 points vs. Lock Haven is the best single-game total by a freshman in DII this year and the 10th best by a rookie in the entire NCAA.

Â
His 995 points in a Rock uniform also represent the sixth highest point total by a transfer to come to SRU in program history. Herster also ranks seventh in program history in career 3-pointers with 116 - seven away from passing Jared Armstrong (2018-20) for sixth place.
